Re: Root canals
I do believe this as so many root canals are badly done.
It is not. The surface of the tooth in general does not allow bacteria through. If it did, ALL our teeth woudl have infections going below them.
They get through at the TIP of the tooth with a root canal - the area that no longer is occupied by the pulp of the tooth, and so leaves a HOLE for bacteria to go through and set up shop under the tooth.. THAT has to be sealed, but it takes enormous skill to get that just right.
I do not remember the remedy I used, but one of my teeth has a natural root canal. It is dead, but it has no bacteria below it. And it is calcified in the canal where the nerve used to be. A perfect natural root canal.
The fact that this tooth is both dead and with a fully sealing root canal, is aother example to illustrate what all the research finds - that the bacteria get there OFTEN after a root canal (causing havoc in the body) - but they do so through the TIP of the tooth with a root canal. NOT through just anywhere.
If the teeth used as bridge abutments hold up over time I can see this as an option.
Namaste,
Irene

Re: Root canals
Unfortunately, Ginny, you'll have to get the root canal. I went through this process a few years ago. I had to purchase dental insurance. I chose Delta Dental because it is cheap but try for a higher quality one of you can. They pay 50% of the cost, and only cost about $120/ year. Anyway I looked for and tried every alternative treatment I could find. It was traumatic! I spend twice as much as what the root canal eventually cost. Find a good endodontist. I know a good one in the SF Bay Area.
The thing is, the affected tooth will eventually start hurting so much as the nerve dies.also, the amount of bacteria that grows is potentially bad for your heart as all blood goes to the heart. You could develop bacterial endocarditis.
I'm sorry to deliver this news, but root canals are a b*tch and need to be debt with ASAP!

Re: Root canals
I have been introduced to a fine old gentleman dentist, through my chiropractor, who knew exactly what I was talking about. He has been caring for me for some years, and has always been as puzzled as I about my disability. I believe his words were, “Well, there ya go!” when I started telling him about the tooth. Anyway, I knew I was in the right place when the dentist’s front office folks said he would "muscle test" the tooth right off:) I am familiar with kinesiology, and find it very handy. They are in agreement about removing it. I am self-insured, and will have no difficulty whatever outcome is decided - probably a zirconium implant and a crown. I shall report back, for the good of the order, and thank you all for your input:)
