The situation is very different in the UK--enviable for us here in the US.
You have many more homeopaths in a smaller area than we do.
Your schools have been institutionalized for many years and structures
for doing Helpline have been established.
In the US if we had such a helpline, which would be great, practitioners would
have to feel comfortable doing phone cases. Many practitioners don't or won't.
Further, many wont do acute cases. Then there is the issue of having people
calling long distance, possibly across the country which is much bigger than
yours.
Nonetheless, a helpline would be a terrific thing to create. It would take work.

The HAA meeting is coming up in April. Do you folks in the US want this brought up as an idea to the organizations who would implement it ? How does the UK pay for the folks who man the phones and is there a centeral location where people man the phones? It won't become a reality this meeting but at least the idea will be out there.

The phone number of the homeopathic helpline is a premium number which costs £1.50 a minute- that is how it pays for the homeopaths. There are 2 main people on the phone and they have a cell phone which they take around with them. |They are both very experienced homeopaths. See http://www.homeopathyhelpline.com/

yes that works there but here in US no helpline and I looked it and the cost would be horrendous. Anyone have better info on how to set up something like that in US? A phone number that calculates the charges per minute as you talk and adds the charge to your phone bill?

tragedy as minor acutes and first aid can easily be handled by phone (and I handle all chronic cases by phone - sometimes using a video or webcam)
Exactly - which is tragic - you don't have to suffer through acutes will under constitional treatment
The billing associated with the line is the problem

that would be a great idea to bring up.
we are still so hidden as a healing profession. having this
helpline would be a way to promote ourselves and give people
confidence they would not be 'abandonned' if they couldn't reach
their practitioner

if more people knew about and used Skype which at the moment is free online that
would be great.
some of us have unlimited phone calling for a fixed monthly price. that would also work well
but not with the advent of exclusive cell phone use by so many people
all that being said, if people are in such pain/discomfort then the cost of the call may not be
a hindrance. and it would also limit frivolous calls.
but there are a slew of problems that would have to be dealt with. maybe an 800 phone number
would be part of the solution to eliminte long distance rates for those who pay them.,
need to have more heads in on this discussion.

Of course this is expensive for the patient but they are getting out-of-hours homeopathic help and paying someone for it. Not unreasonable.
The people on the helpline are running it as a business after all.
I always tell my patients to have a list of whatever remedies they have to hand before they phone and all relevant information so as to minimise time spent on this £1.50 per minute number.There is a charge for owning a premium rate number in the UK, too, but it hasn't stopped it being profitable!
