Urticaria can all have all sorts of causations - maybe not all reps have the allergic/hives/swelling rubrics, Murphy's does, haven't checked others but it doesn't have to be always allergic that's for sure.

What has the food preferences got to do with this? If you are taking the whole case as a chronic one then a whole lot more detail would be required, if an acute then I don't see what what food preferences or the desire for vinegar has to do with it unless these suddenly appear with the Urticaria making them srp sx.

Puls may well be the simillimum, who can tell with so few details but allergies will respond well to acute rx but the underlying cause will only be eradicated with chronic treatment.

Bell = because of the heat, congestion, >> cool and to bring down swelling which by the sounds of it is at a dangerous level.

A: Believe it or not ) I used standard acute casetaking approach, and these are preferences specific to this time period, not ones that began prior to the episode. Yes, it suddenly appeared along with the urticaria.

In acute prescribing unless you can actually locate a link between food substances and an after effect, i.e. sx it would not rank very highly, in other words she drinks vinegar before she went swimming on those times she got urticaria (then it would be srp and high ranking) - it sounded more like you are taking a chronic case and this is important to ascertain and imo it is easier to keep acutes and chronics separate.

As always, lots of people read these posts (well maybe) and acute case taking is a different approach - still pertaining to what needs to be cured but requiring a different mind set and it can be very tempting to include peripheral sx that are not actually part of the case.
As for your other post comments, eyes wide shut!

This was her only episode of urticaria, so my case is based only upon this one episode.

My question to her re food was, Any clear desires or aversions that are either different from what you usually have, or strongly emphasized since after the episode began. How would you like me to have asked?

For that matter, let's cut thru the details--what questions would *you* have asked, and what information included, in order to make this in your eyes an appropriately taken acute case?

If you suspect an allergic reaction then food questions would come into it to make sure you've covered all possibilities but probably only to the extent to know that sx would have shown an almost immediate reaction or at least very quickly after consumption but you made the point so strongly that this was a cause and effect of river swimming - it would be remiss not to include questions about other potential causations but when the cause is apparently nothing to do with ingestion then I personally would not have included those results in an acute consideration - however in the chronic case then definitely they might play a part - hence my question 'what has food got to do with it'.

Allergies are difficult, often deep seated, with an acute exacerbation that requires a different rx to the chronic (not always) and with a dangerous swelling of vital organs you cannot make that mistake.

But presumably the Pulsatilla worked immediately and there's no case to discuss but hypothetically there might be.

I don't know how you take your acutes cases, I just asked what food has to do with it, which seemed a fair question at the time.

Actually, while waiting for me to respond, she started eating handfuls of garlic, and quickly started feeling better (and swelling and hives began to recede-I gather, but will re-check). ) She's not sure that will resolve the whole thing and is still planning to get the Puls--I will let you know when have anything on that to share. But, this does suggest that the reaction was more infectious than allergic. (Allergy to an infective agent?)

Yes, causation was clear; it was from the swimming. Effect began immediately, but then increased over the next few days.

So--do you not consider concomitant symptoms to be useful, or you do not consider a sudden craving for vinegar or grapefruit water to be a symptom?
