swollen face rubric

Person is having a *horrible* reaction to swimming in contaminated water (tho she says no one else seems to be having this problem; for her it is recurring, tho this episode by far the worst). In addition to hives all over ("small red bumps" and also larger ones), she said "my face is swollen up like elephant man, and my eyes are little tiny slits."
Is "Face, swelling, edematous" an appropriate rubric, or just the general "Face, swelling", or ? (There's more to the case, but I'm specifically wondering about this rubric.)

What is the water contaminated with? If Chlorine give Chlorine 6 - it works well for allergies in swimming pools.
Is this an Apis Sx?

Reminds me of what prednisone and similar prednisone products does to people, gives them a swollen moon face.

She swam in the town reservoir. Says she's been swimming there since her teens without any problem, but about six years back (so... that would be after swimming in it without trouble for at least 20 years) she started to get ear, nose, throat issues after swimming in it--but others do not seem to be having problems.

So not chlorine, and I think not apis either. I've told her to try Puls, based on these rubrics:

This is particularly on her face and eyes, she says ice cubes help to reduce both the swelling and the itching

(scratching or rubbing feels good for a second or so, then the skin becomes very hypersensitive, and it hurts.)

This reads so much like an allergic reaction that I would suggest you use 'allergy/hibes' as a direct rubric or at least be looking at rx that rank highly in this area. Being a reservoir got me thinking if there are any fish in the water and that got me thinking about Astacas (river crawfish) has a lot of swelling and burning heat typical of allergy and urticarea all over.

You would expect the feeling of thickness, fullness and congestion with so much swelling, more unusual sx would be more useful probably.

Rhus has urticaria after getting wet (although generally prefers warm/hot applications).

Ars will swell and burn, >> cold - is the whole body >>> cold applications?

Dulcamara is another rx that has urticaria from getting wet.

With all that swelling and congestion, heat etc then don't forget Belladonna - might help more as an acute than prescribing a chronic rx during an allergic flare up.

I think some at least of those symptoms are the ones you get when swimming in a body of water where ducks live; I gather it is something they transmit. We go to a lake in NH, USA where there are strict instructions not to feed the ducks so they won’t hang around and transmit that illness. Teresa (Northern VA)

I don't find an allergy / hives rubric--which are you thinking of? (I just used the broad urticaria-hives one; aren't all hives allergic, tho?)

Getting wet isn't the issue; she swims in ponds, takes baths etc.--it's the reservoir water she has trouble with; something other than the water...

But I'm curious why you would prefer a remedy that does not appear in any of these (smaller and more characterizing) rubrics

over Puls, which does? Puls is certain useful for quite a variety of acute complaints; I'm wondering why you're considering it "a chronic remedy" in the given situation? The remedy was chosen strictly on basis of the acute, not based on chronic case.

Would you consider e.g. Bell. even tho it does not appear in those characterizing rubrics, and if so, why?

That's interesting. It wouldn't be surprising at all if there are ducks in that reservoir--but odd that only *she* is having trouble??
