Dear Didi,

Sorry - addition to previous email - this meeting took place not a moment too soon - the Finlay Institute is also working with SmithKline Beecham to manufacture vaccines for the US with a view to the embargo being lifted! Amazing that the embargo, as bad as it has been for the Cubans, forced a level of innovation that might not have happened otherwise - their amazing work in alternative medicine and organic farming needs to come to light before it gets lost in the rush for economic change.

one of the disadvantages of lifting the embargo is the possible pressure to
accept the 'free' trade agreement conditions that have ruined so many other
developing nations. cuba's isolation from the usa was a great boon to their
has one of the best health care systems in the world, as compared the usa
with one of the worst according to a UN report.
