Well, I think it is in part a matter of degree (at least naturapaths
are using substances that are more or less *natural* to human bodies!).
And have a broader understanding of "health" and "healing".

Presumably because constitutional approach would be slower and far more
expensive, yes?

yes, i agree with you on both points, but they are signficant.
i would certainly prefer to see herbs and natural, organic food
supplements thant toxic chemicals be used.

and of course it is $$$$ in the us where people are lulled into
compliance with 'free' insurance and don't want to spend the moula.

but also, there is the time factor--impatient americans who want
magic bullets instantly.

Can't tell who's post was last but in semi-agreement with Luise I
think - naturopaths have a nickname - 'green allopaths'. Treatment is
symptom and replacement based; this for this and that for that -
often just as suppressive and non-healing as allopathy. What is used
more are pharma-herbs, nothing near true herbology. Some do, but
few. Many freely use antibiotics, hormones, etc. Also, one can use
herbs and even homeopathy, as you know, very superficially.

If Hahnemann was known to state this, he may have been referring to
those aspects of naturopathy.

Ideally classical homeopathy comes first then see if and where
complimentary naturopathy may be helpful - by one that does real
herbology. We can work very well together in that kind of manner :)

Best,
Liz

HI Luise & Shannon,

Sorry!
I guess I'm old fashioned! I still do Naturopathy the old "Nature Cure" way (like as taught in India).
And guess what? it still works!

Me too Didi. I don’t do anything the “allopathic” way. I currently use Naturopathy, Homeopathy, EFT, Reiki, Qigong, Flower Essences, Acupressure, Nutrition, Crystal Therapy, and many others all of which I have been thoroughly trained in. I took additional courses on many of the subjects included in my Naturopathic Studies to further educate myself. The original classes were good just some like Homeopathy is a much larger learning process if you really want to do it well. As is herbs. Unless you are a TRAINED Naturopath don’t assume things. None of us were around in Hahnemann’s days either so that also is an assumption. Kathy

Hi Shannon,
Well, I have to modifiy, since I do not know what "naturopaths" do. I I
cn just write about the "Heilpraktiker", which is officially called what
would translated be "naturopathic practice".
Obviously not, they did not have them at that time.

That was later. In Hahnemann's days most of the prescriptions were
herbal mixtures.
This is one of the exceptions.

There is a huge misconception about Naturopathy.
Most people, and practitioners unfortunately, see it as medicine using "natural remedies"; how natural is a tincture or a vitamin/mineral pill? How natural is it to stick pieces of metal in your body? Or to give a colonic????
The idea behind real naturopathy is the restoration of normal = natural function of the patient at all levels, physical, mental and emotional, which means not using coercive measures like drugs OR remedies that IMPOSE their action upon the physiology, but using whatever means are needed to redirect the physiology to normality, provided there has not been destruction or deterioration to the extent it needs replacement (IDDM, surgery, etc,....).
Therefore there is the need to properly evaluate each patient individually, understand what is happening and choosing the proper method, the proper modality valid for this individual at that specific time.
That is why some of us are practicing other methods than strictly homeopathy.
Makes sense????

Hi Dr. Roz,
:-) With reference to vitamin / mineral pills, I would say that's a
"how long is a rope" type of question! Some are pretty unnatural, but
others less so. I guess the most fully "natural" treatment would be to
simply do nothing! Short of that, there are degrees...

What's unnatural about tinctures, tho?

And I know nothing about Heilpraktiker except what you've said here.
Actually, I'm realizing I don't know much about naturapathy either;
years ago I'd flirted with going to a school for it, and remember the
curriculum as being rather delicious looking. Of the two naturapaths
that I've seen as a patient, over the years, one focused pretty tightly
on a rather unnatural dietary regimen (fasting, cleansing, vegan, raw
foods, fistfuls of supplements--it did not agree with me for long, but
she does have an impressive cadre of apparently cured cancer patients,
so I am not knocking it!!). The second focuses on Live Blood analysis
plus supplements. Oh yeah, and a third used homeopathy and herbs.
But, that's all I know about it. But all of that did seem a very far
cry from what MDs do!
Cheers,
Shannon

By "unnatural" I mean that they do not exist in a natural state, you have to actively prepare them, select your herbs, etc,..... Not like food you can collect or a tea you can make; it is the manufacturing process that makes it "human" rather than "natural".
But that is not the point, it is the philosophy behind the approach that is misconceived.
