Dear Joy,
I must agree with Soroush. I think signatures are useful mnemonic devices.
But to assume the curative effects of a medicine can be ascertained by
studying the physical behaviors and properties of a substance deviates far
from the scientific principles of homeopathy and was despised by Hahnemann
himself.

Hello Dave,
nice to hear from you
By the way: Will Tayler on Sehgal:
"So the patients' words taken "literally" (or more to the point, our
projection on what these words might mean if we were to use them ourselves)
are not what we need in order to understand our patient - we need to ask
ourselves, "what does the patient really mean in his use of these words?"
What else can he tell us to help us understand the "will and understanding"
behind these expressions?
This said, Sehgal's emphasis on the "Present, Predominating and Persistent"
expressions of the patient may be a wonderful tool when used with careful
listening and discretion on the part of the practicioner."
Mmm........... Discretion, good observation made by Will, but for some (I
won't name names) this will very difficult to learn.
Regards, Piet

Re: APIS and the case of exploding genitals
I am enjoying this opportunity to learn how open Dr. Taylor and David Little are to the ideas of Dr. Seghal.
Sankaran spoke of Seghal's contribution to homeopathy very highly in one of his seminars, too.
Seems like you either "get" what Seghal's doing, or don't "get" it. I'm grateful to Lisa Barret for taking the time to give some excellent demonstrations on how to employ the ideas well.

Re: APIS and the case of exploding genitals
Joy,
I meant that one cannot look at a substance/plant/animal and make any
judgments about it's medicinal properties in terms of homeopathy. For
example, to assume that a vine is a remedy for clingy patients or that a
cactus is aggravated by wet weather or that ferrum is rigid is unscientific
and not part of the homeopathic paradigm. If a proper proving demonstrates
these properties, then using the "signature" as an easy way to remember the
materia medica is fine.
The fact that many symptoms from a remedy can be explained in terms of the
signature doctrine does not mean the signature is the cause of those
symptoms. Andre Saine wrote an article maybe a year ago illustrating this
fact by selecting many remedies whose proving symptoms are completely
inconsistent with the signatures.
Hope this is clearer now.
