Just remembered this one as well - scanty breast milk supply can happen
if the woman gets pregnant while still breastfeeding. That happened to a
friend when the child she was feeding was only 4 months old.

Re: to increase milk flow in feeding mother
I'm not sure that is a good defense of many parenting practices. lol =)
BUT beer is said to assist with letdown, perhaps for its relaxing properties, and if it is *real* beer (not mass-marketed American brands) it will contain hops which are said to be a galactagogue (meaning it increases milk supply). Oatmeal is also a galactogogue and there are certainly plenty of others. But the issue really is finding the root cause. Good nutrition and intake of water are vital but beyond that, true constitutional care would be a great long term solution. The other question, of course, is IF there is really a need to increase the milk supply or if the problem is that the baby is not being latched on properly or if breastfeeding is being poorly managed with timed/limited feeds or some other nonsense. La Leche League is a phenomenal resource for all of these questions and more.
Also, a moderate amount of alcohol for the mother will not be a problem in the milk. Thomas Hale's _Medications and Mother's Milk_ is a great source of information for how things pass into milk - for how long and to what extent...
=)

Yes.
If no milk seems available after the birth, Urt-u 30C every 15 mins
for 4 doses (lets milk down), and can be repeated if needed over next
4 days - but find out why as this is not normal.
To stop milk if no longer needing to nurse or for whatever reason
(eg loss of infant):
Urt-u 3C every hour for up to 2 days then 4 times a day for 3 or 4
more days.
Or as needed.
But in general if milk is in short supply, the best booster I know is
Lac deflor 30C given twice a day for 2 or 3 days ... easy to get too
much milk this way!
Alfalfa tincture in water is also a good tonic for milk supply.
(The above works in any species, except where alfalfa is toxic as in
cats and dogs, forget that.)
Namaste,
Irene

Re: to increase milk flow in feeding mother
Thanks . That is useful to me to know. Myself with 4 children always boosted energy and milk when needed with a cup of Milo and a short rest..
CHEST; MILK; disappearing (47) : Dulc., Urt-u., agn., arn., asaf., calc., camph., caust., chel., chion., ign., lac-c., lac-d., phel., plan., plb., puls., rhus-t., sec., tub., ust., verat-v., zinc., acet-ac., agar., alf., aur., aur-s., bry., cham., chin., coff., galeg., hecla., lyc., medus., merc., mill., naja, nat-m., ph-ac., phos., phyt., sabal., sep., sulph., thyr.
It is really quite a big rubric and leaves room to look for and match other modalities,
Best Wishes Jean
