Re: psoriasis in child

Post by ELM »

Hi Rochelle (and all),
I just joined and I am very happy to be here! :)

Perhaps you might consider Guaiacum Officianale. Or Sepia followed
by Guaiacum. See my thinking below...

Guaiacum is similar to Sulphur and Tuberculinum. It follows Sepia
and Calc well.

Sepia has:
- mind, confusion, when spoken to (2);
- mind, talk, indisposed to, desire to be silent, taciturn(1);
- mind, confusion, weeping amel (2);
- head pain, vertex (3);
- skin, eruptions, scaly (3);
- skin, discoloration, yellow spots (3);
- herpes circinatus in isolated spots;
- ringworm like eruption every spring;
- lentigo (small freckle like spots) in young women;
- face, eruptions, lips (3);
- chill, chilliness (3);
- cough (1-3 depending upon type, time);
- generalities, lassitude (2);
- generalities, weariness (3);
- freckles (2);
- (however - mind, consolation agg (3) does not fit as well all the
fears of sepia(3), cold in general aggravates sepia - and hot
applications amel (not cold), and some other mind/generals do not
fit).
- However, she does seem to fit the general worn down feeling of
Sepia and the need to be quiet. She is also approaching menses and
at that age schoolwork becomes more difficult and laborious all of
which could fit.

She has/had Sulphur qualities:
- mouth, discoloration, tongue, red tip (3);
- face, discoloration, red lips (3);
- skin eruptions; itching; painful (all 3);
- freckles (2)
- cough, headaches improved with Sulphur.

She also has many Tuberculinum rubrics:
- tinea (ring-shaped, scaly, itching patches on the skin - ringworm);
- skin eruptions, herpetic, circinate (round) (3); itching (2);
- chronic cough (tedious, 1; dry 3);
- generalities, lassitude (3);
- milk allergy;
- chill, chiliness (3);
- face discoloration, red lips (2);
- face, eruptions, herpes, about lips (2);
- (however - mind, fear of dogs (2) does not fit, nor do the
restlessness/hyperactivity/destructiveness/few but strong fears,
especially of being alone, of Tuberculinum);
- However, the subset of Tuberculinum children who are not
destructive can be quite sensitive and artistic.

This leads me to Guaiacum.

Guaiacum seems to fit well. It has the following:

- amelioration from cold applications as a keynote;
- mind, talk, indisposed to, desire to be silent, taciturn (3);
- mind, thoughts, vanishing of(2);
- generalities, lassitude (1);
- inclination to sit (3) staring (2);
- chill, chilliness (1);
- head pain, vertex (1);
- skin, eruptions, painful (1).

Just some ideas to think about! Call it synchronicity - considering
same ideas for someone who fits similar description to your patient
(age, gender, same inclination to sit and stare then weep when
questioned!, chronic cough at night, except no ringworm like
eruptions).

Sankaran has work on a ringworm miasm but I do not have access to
that information. Perhaps something you want to consider. Bacillinum
(nearly identical to Tuberculinum) is well known for ringworm and
pityriasis (skin condition with shedding of dry, flaky scales).

Would love to know what the results are whatever remedy you end up
selecting.
Truly,
Erica

Yes, send the photos if you'd like. It sounds more like ringworm or
tinea to me than psoriasis. Thus my previous post...

Dear Rochelle

This case caught my interest. So I have pondered about it for a bit and
asked the question - WHAT NEEDS TO BE CURED?

My observation is that you have written mum "thinks it may be getting worse
again". But did the girl complain of it when you saw her.

If not then we should think of her presenting symptoms:

I think you need to pay attention to the aetiology of this case - when she
went back to school after the holidays.
Did something happen during the holiday or when she went to school - was it
her old school or a new one? Was she bullied ? etc etc.

After that you obviously have her mentals of:
Not answering (MIND GOES BLANK)
Crying when pushed
Knows her own mind
Consolation desires

followed with

Chilly
car sickness
skin eruption

The cold water amel of her skin caught my eye and here FAGO speaks loudly
It also has action on the skin, producing pruritus, very marked.
Visible pulsation of arteries. Fluent coryza. Offensive excretions.
Itching erythema. . Post-nasal catarrh;
dry crusts, granular appearance of posterior nares with itching.

Head.-Inability to study or remember. Depressed and irritable.
Itching of eyes and ears. Pains deep in head, with upward pressure.
Itching in and around eyes and ears. Head
hot, better bending backward, with tired neck. Occipital headache.
Bursting pains. Cerebral hyperaemia.

Skin.-Itching; better by bathing in cold water; worse
scratching, touch and retiring. Sore red blotches. Blind boils.
Itching of knees and elbows and hairy portions. Itching of hands, deep in.
Vesicular, pustular, phlegmonous dermatitis.
Skin hot, swollen.

Modalities.-Better, cold water, coffee; worse, in afternoon; from sunlight,
scratching.

But MIND - WEEPING - answering a question, at; has only PULS
As you say she is clever, I do not think she has problems comprehending as
has been suggested.

Good luck

Rgds
Soroush

Also important to my mind--if you compare her present state, including
the skin ailment, with her earlier states (which were apparently helped
by the calc-c?), is she doing better over-all now, or is she about the
same, only with addition of the skin stuff?

Dear Erica,
Thanks for the work you have done on my case. Sepia was the top Rx that came
up in my rep but when I read up on the Sepia child I read that they have a
negative attitude and Fear being alone which is just not this child I
dismissed it. Guaiacum I have used only as a tincture for arthritis!! I will
give it a read!!

Dear Soroush

I think the tiny beginnings of the psoriasis became these large round
patches after I gave her Calc 1M. I really don't think school is a problem
for this girl. She went back to her old school after the holidays.
Puls is a remedy that has been used for her before successfully so again is
a thought.
I am not familiar with Fago so I will study this one.

(I had my other current psoriasis case in today. A long standing psoriasis
of 30 years and in 6 months during the Winter it has got to the better state
that it goes to when she goes abroad somewhere hot. She is so much better in
herself. The only Rx she has had is Sepia. We are now on 1M water potency
when it starts flaring up. It gets worse at menses and is >>> salt water )
Thanks

Another good point!! There is nothing else wrong with her at the moment .
She is doing OK!! She is not even embarrassed about what it looks like
because her father has it!! He used to come to me and homeopathy sorted his
mental state (It may have been Sepia - can't remember without going to my
file) but not his psoriasis.

I will send you the photos. It is not Ringworm or tinea. Her father has
suffered all his life with Psoriasis.

Then the only etiology is "direction-of-cure"? :-)
But 10M for a skin ailment... What about going low instead? (I'd
love to hear others' thoughts!) (Tho I still rather like the idea of
psorinum...)
