Dear Ellen,
I myself suffered a back injury with prolapsed disc in August 2005 and cured
with Hypericum 200 followed by Rhus tox 200 and completed with calc-c.200.
in 15 to 20 days.
KENT J. T., Lectures, "*Hypericum* is to be given at once to prevent the
kind of inflammation that may come from such an injury. - Then there will be
other tendencies, such as drawings and rheumatic symptoms, that will come
on, calling for *Rhus* and finally *Calcarea*."
of course in this case I would recommend :
*Hypericum,
Rhus,
Gettysburg aqua* ( contains calc-c.,mag-c and mag-s. in a viable proportion
to rectify calcium magnesium imbalance and cal-c. for inflammation of inner
structure of kidney.) &
*Apocynum cannabinum* for inflammation of inner structure of kidney and
oedema. Perhaps
*Lac caninum* to get her off the pain killers.
Bryce Wylde and John vanDykhave state "aspirin inhibits the repair of
cartilage and accelerates the destruction of cartilage. Aspirin interferes
with the ability of chondroblasts to stimulate the production of new
collagen. Also non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) inhibits
cartilage repair and accelerates bone loss."

I have a 73 year Japanese lady px ... bones of the spine
have been pushed against one another..already has some extra
calcium ..on the spinal bone ..a week of Hypericum 200 she is able to sit
up, stand up
and turn over, but still is taking pain killers and is progressing
into using a corset to move about. ..hypericum can't fix the
problem. ..she moves ..pain killers, she is also injurying the spinal
cord. ..she has the spinal bone nodule because she has a weak kidney.
...lower legs and knee are heavy with edema.

This remedy has won for itself the chief place in the relief of dropsical
conditions. Whether they be in the form of anasarca, ascites, oedema of the
extremities, hydrothorax, or hydropericardium, the result of a suspended
action of the kidneys, no structural disease being present. There is a
sinking feeling at the pit of the stomach with great thirst, but water
disagrees, and is vomited up at once. The bowels are constipated, and the
urine is scanty and of a dark colour. The dyspnoea is so great that the
patient cannot lie down and can scarcely speak. The best results will be
obtained from this remedy when it is used in doses of from one to five drops
of the tincture, or one or two drachmas of a decoction.

*Hypericum perforatum*It is not an uncommon thing for a man, while going
down stairs, to fall backward, his feet to slip from under him and the
strikes his back upon one the steps and undergoes a sharp injury.- Some will
at once give Rhus tox; I have known others to give Arnica. - *Hypericum* is
to be given at once to prevent the kind of inflammation that may come from
such an injury. - Then there will be other tendencies, such as drawings and
rheumatic symptoms, that will come on, calling for *Rhus* and finally *
Calcarea*.- Old weaknesses of the back, with painfulness on rising from a
seat, are often cured by Rhus, followed by Calcarea, but Hypericum must
first of all take care of the condition of the fibres of the cord and
meninges. - Meningeal troubles are common from injuries of that class, with
drawing of the muscles of the back, a feeling of contraction or tightening.
- Stitching, shooting pains in the back in various directions; they shoot
down the limbs. - Injuries of the back are not so likely to end in tetanus
as the injuries of the sensory nerves; but they are sometimes even more
troublesome because they linger so long.- Persons who have been injured in
the spine or about the coccyx linger along for years with symptoms that
would lead to many remedies. - We find in the provings such symptoms as
occur after these injuries, and, of course, this remedy will cure anything
that its proving justifies. - Its action is upon the nerve sheaths and
meninges, with stitching, tearing, rending pains along the nerves, wherever
there are injuries.

*Backache violent with vertebral fibrositis *
Case no. 111 1.10.1987
A 40 years old man slipped suddenly on the table while working with ceiling
tan. He fell down and had sudden jerks in the back bone with click and
cracking noise - as if intervertebral disc was prolapsed or slipped out from
the spine. After this patient had violent pain at the same point of
click-where the intervertebral disc was slipped out and where the muscles
were cramped, had spasmodic contraction and stiffness. After one day, whole
spine had become so stiff that patient could not change the position in the
bed himself. Cried due to great pain in the whole of spine. The whole back
had become wooden plank due to its stiffness. He could not stoop or bend his
back, he felt that a wooden rod had been fixed in the whole of spine, and a
helper made him to rise from bed for urination. He was raised up from the
bed as if a wooden plank was being raised up from the ground. The pain from
affected spot was extending to upper back and down thighs causing the legs
more heavy with numb feeling -here it could be said that prolapsed
intervertebral disc was putting pressure over the spinal cord and nerves
attached to it - that were conveying numb feeling in the lower limbs. Pain
in the back was worse by laughing, talking, sneezing or changing position in
the bed. The case had become the case of Fibrositis i.e. , the inflammation
with pain of soft tissue of the trunk -which was associated with muscular
stiffness and tenderness of the soft tissue of the vertebral bone - after
some trauma (injury) during slipping on the table. Patient had great
neuralgic pain in the nerves attacked with the slipped disc and in the
affected soft tissue or periosteum of the affected vertebra with feeling of
great weakness and debility due to such injury and bruise to the back bone.
Patient took allopathic medicines and two injections for relief, but he had
no relief within 5 days. *Arnica* = 200, 3 doses after every one hour, *
Hypericum*-30 after 2 hours. On 2.10.1987. Patient had no major relief, but
Arnica worked as the first remedy in pain due to injury or sprain. *
Symphytum*-200, 2 doses after every one hour and *Ruta* - 30 after 2 hours.
On 3.10.1987. Again Symphytum-200, 2 doses after 8 hours. Ruta-30 after
every 4 hours. Cured the patient completely within 4 days.

Blows, falls and injuries that affect the sacrum. The right side of the
sacroiliac symphysis is affected, and pains extend down the right thigh.
Soreness is the main complaint. Touch hurts so much that he fears it, and
avoids it. Longstanding muscle spasm in the lumbosacral region. The back
pain is worse on coughing or laughing.
*Variolinum *
Effects of falls and injuries to the lumbar spine and sacrum. Intolerable
and excruciating pain extends down the legs, and into the abdomen. As if the
back would break. Rising from a seat difficult and painful. Rheumatic pain
in the muscles of the back. Any movement is painful.
*Bryce Wylde and John vanDyk, The Effectiveness of Homeopathic Therapeutics
in Sports Induced Injuries*
Conventional treatment can include analgesics, mild tranquilizers, and
muscle relaxants help relieve pain.
Although implemented, conventional treatment such as aspirin inhibits the
repair of cartilage and accelerates the destruction of cartilage. Aspirin
interferes with the ability of chondroblasts to stimulate the production of
new collagen. Also non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) inhibits
cartilage repair and accelerates bone loss.
Natural therapies include the use of vitamin C, which helps prevent the
requirement for surgery in a significant percentage of persons afflicted
with early back lesions that occur as a result of herniated or slipped
disks.
Supportive agents include those that help repair the surrounding tissues and
rehydrate the affected tissues. Chondroitin sulphate is the main component
of cartilage. Glucosamine sulphate is the main constituent of chondroitin
sulphate that in turn is the primary component of cartilage. Glucosamine
sulphate can also be obtained via exogenous supplementation. Exogenous,
supplemental glucosamine can "instruct" chondroclasts to cease destroying
cartilage, whilst at the same time reactivating chondroblasts to recommence
"building" new cartilage.
High levels of Matrix Gla Protein (MGP) are found in the body's Cartilage
and there is some scientific evidence that MGP is involved in inhibiting the
mineralization of cartilage. Other exogenous substances including
supplemental S-Adenosylmethionine (SAM-e) also stimulates the production of
cartilage.
As an alkaloid, capsaicin (0.025% cream applied topically) is an herb that
inhibits the destruction of cartilage. Amino acids and minerals are also
crucial to the repair of tissue located in the spinal column. Proline is an
essential component of cartilage (via its incorporation into collagen).
Silicon concentrates in and stimulates the formation of cartilage by
stimulating chondroblasts to deposit chondroitin sulphate, hyaluronic acid
and keratin sulphate onto cartilage matrix.
Stage I Remedies
*Bellis perennis *
Bellis perennis affects blood vessels like arnica and the nerves
like hypericum.
*Hypericum perforatum *
Hypericum is known as the arnica of the nerves. Hypericum is
effective for pain if there is injury to nerves or parts rich in nerves.
Stage II Remedies
*Rhus Toxicodendron *
An indication for rhus-tox is that the injury is worse on initial
motion, so there will be a stiffness and soreness first thing in the morning
or after a rest, but it gets better with continued motion and is better by
massage.
*Ruta Graveolens *
The ruta patient is better with rest, yet they are restless with the
urge to move to get comfortable.
*Rhododendron Chrysanthum *
The patient is worse from rest and better by motion, but is worse from too
much motion.
Stage III Remedies
*Calcarea Silicata*
Calc-sil patients are yielding people who tend to be sickly and
complain of frequent colds and sore throats. They lack stamina and are
frequently chilly.
*Symphytum 30C*
once a day for 2 weeks or a single dose of 1M for bone healing.
Follow this with a single dose of 1M of Calc-f or calc-p for injuries to
ligaments and bone.
*Elaine Lewis, Soccer Moms, Heads Up!*
*Symphytum*
For all the bone diseases; osteomyelitis, bone ulcers, spinal diseases after
trauma and injury. ...
it is a Symphytum or Ruta case. Arnica is for soft tissue. Arnica may help
but Symphytum will cure. ...
You can start with Arnica but a lot of times, that won't finish it. You may
have to give two or three remedies in sequence to give rapid relief. Give
Arnica to remove the bruised feeling and the swelling and help with the
discoloration, then it is time to go to another remedy, like Symphytum to
finish it. ... Symphytum has a great affinity for bones...promotes healing;
give Arnica first; once the [broken] bone is set, give Symphytum. It helps
remove pain, inflammation and swelling, good for injury to periosteum when
Ruta fails and injury to coccyx when Hypericum fails.
*Hypericum*
This is the nerve remedy...The pain is sharp and shooting. Injury to the
nerves, inflammation of the nerves.
Puncture wounds with sharp pains...Numbness and tingling.
Injury to the spine.
Pinched nerve.
Crush wounds
Any neurological condition after injury to the spine like convulsions.
Person complains that he can't raise his arms without pain.
Lacerations.
Excessive painfulness.
*Staphysagria*
It can be hard to decide when to use Staphysagria...with Staphysagria there
is more pain, exquisite pain! In fact, do you know where I use Staphysagria?
At the dentist's office! Scraping the plaque off of sensitive teeth can
cause a patient to hit the ceiling! For this I take Staphysagria 10M right
as I sit down in the dentist's chair; and as homeopathic remedies don't
create the "drugged" feeling you get from pain killers, you can think that
the remedy isn't working, and that the dentist just hasn't gotten to your
sensitive teeth yet. But when I got through the whole bottom row without
pain, I began to suspect something! And when the whole proceedure was done
without any anesthesia, I was convinced that the remedy really worked! But
back to sports injuries! With Staphysagria, there is deeper infection than
in Calendula, there is more pus and more pain. The wound seems to affect the
whole person and not just the local site.
*Natrum sulph.*
"Nat-sulph" is needed for the chronic syndrome following head injury or
spinal injury which will almost always include severe depression.
There may also be amnesia about the event.
