However.... there is always the story told by a well known british
homeopath - a group of students were taking the case of a man who was a
hardened drug dealer. So shocked were the students by his 'occupation'
that they imagined involved deception, errors of personal identity, and
some kind of division (that he had lost himself to this awful criminal
life) that they decided on Thuja as the simillimum and gave it
extremely high, 10m. When the person arrived for a follow up he was
asked about his 'occupation' and the students were thrilled when he
announced he had "given all that up" but he added "seamus here,
(pointing to his shoulder) is now making a fortune for me on my
behalf".

It is very easy to suppress, even with one dose if the judgment call is
made. This really is a true story by the way. Best wishes, Joy

Joy, *what* happened?? Are you saying he'd gained an "imaginary
friend" who sat on his shoulder? What happened then?

Exactly-

This is because yes indeed he happened to be a Thuja case and the high
dose aggravated, if the patient is sensitive to the remedy even a
single dose could start a proving concurrent to the amelioration.
I have seen this too... but then I have never started with 10M so there.

The question is when the patient is not a Thuja at all - what would
have happened with a single dose? Even if it is a partial simillimum
which is most often the case, you get some improvement, the case gets
clarified mostly and the indications become clearer... or else there
is an amelioration followed by return of symptoms...it is very rare
indeed where a partial simillimum goes on to aggravate the condition
so much that it is frightening or threatening....

If this happened with any regularity, most of the homeopaths would be
out of patients by now.. whoever cured with the first medicine all the
time?

All sounds very reasonable to me! Ah, the glory of follow-ups...

urgent aspergers

Post by Joy Lucas »

In this case though the Thuja wasn't curative and as far as I can
remember the supervising homeopath stepped in but cannot recall further
details - apologies it was a long tim ago. The judgement call had just
as much to do with the potency as well as the remedy - the students
'interpreted the case to fit the rx' and went in with a ridiculous high
potency, thinking that the 10m matched their abhorance at his drug
dealing. Even if the rx is wrong first time a lower potency could have
saved this from happening.

Do you know, I don't think I've ever prescribed a 10m, ever - not to
say there wouldn't be a case to suit. Best wishes, Joy

Thanks Joy for this good anecdote-
I have given 10M a few times - once for an acute gastro-enteritis in
hospital with food poisoning after fish- Ars alb 10M promptly put an
end to this ( I gave this because I had run out of all else in my
clinic at that time ;-))
Meanwhile your case started me asking a few questions:

Given this drug-dealer( dealer of death and misery) stopped dealing
but has hallucinations ( might have been due to withdrawal if he had
been dealing as well as using) - is this good or bad?

In computer industry when they classify software bugs - the bug that
spreads the problem across computers and spoils them is the worst
kind more than one that shuts that computer alone. In this case when
dealing was he not affecting many more lives than just his own and
hallucination instead of dealing is it an improvement or not?

Meanwhile I thought eveyone else ( esp. one surrounded by students)
practised "Scientific" homeopathy but me... how come he allowed
students give 10M and get "unexpected" results in an unscientific
manner?

My sense of homeopathy ( I can hear some sabres rattling already
from Himalayas to Australia) is not just the simillimum but even
the similar is sometimes enough for the vital force to take care of
the condition. Otherwise we cannot have so many effective treatment
modalities. For example if the case had responded to acupuncture -
obviously it is not THuja or whatever is indicated in the condition -
and so how can acupuncture be effective if a particular homeopathic
remedy is the only one capable of curing him without suppressing? Or
we have to say that only homoepathy cures people and the all the
rest of them are suppressing...

Right, ok I hadn't written it very well - he hadn't stopped dealing, he
had merely shifted the guilt to his alter ego. Denial. And to develop
such a serious comprehension of a situation can't be good or curative.
Lateral suppression maybe, but suppression all the same. And yes good
question about the teaching but I reckon the students did a good job of
convincing for the case to be Thuja that warranted a 10m.

As for mixed healing modalities - I prefer my clients to be doing just
one at a time because I tend to believe that only one does the real
healing for any one individual and that satellite rx, or near
simillimums, just give sway to inconsistent 'layer' prescribing or 'so
called 'zig zagging' in a case. It is just a waste of healing time and
definitely rattles my sabres :-)

We can always do better than near similars.

???? not in my experience. The reverse is true if anything. If we
tried to take over the allopaths role as suppressors of symptoms
consequences would be unthinkable. Homeopathy would soon be seen to be
virtually ineffective in comparison.

Be less frightened of suppressing symptoms and you will find it
virtually impossible to do so.

Do you recall if a curative remedy was ever found for him?

This lecture, many years ago, evolved out of a discussion regarding
allopathic suppression and homeopathic suppression and which is worst -
most considered that homeopathic suppression was much worse and that
with allopathic suppression you could at least recover the case. Part
of the lecture was also about HOW one could get into a situation where
you might suppress and the 'thuja' case was a good one.

One doesn't set out to suppress homeopathically it is usually done in
ignorance or from copying bad teaching methods. Why on earth would we
want to copy the allopaths on that achievement.

I've heard the "think no suppression, do no suppression" argument
before. What a load of bunkum. If I could stop receiving clients that
had so damaged their case by self dosing, I would be a happy bunny
indeed. Joy
