Cough and sneezing
Re: Cough and sneezing
If you feel that the Drosera has helped that much it would be best to repeat
the original potency (at least that is what I would do). I wouldn't advise
jumping up to a 200c, but it sounds like it is worth repeating.
The head pain you would find under 'headaches, pressing, forehead, on
coughing.
Other remedies which 'gasp' with coughing are Spongia, Squilla, Aconite,
Drosera, Apis, Carbo veg, Lycopodium, Bromium, Ant tart, Bryonia, Coc-c, to
name but a few. There is a rubric for this.

Re: Cough and sneezing
Thanks Joy,
I found the rubrics. It seems Bromiun would be a perfect match but I don't have it and as we are leaving the country on Thursday, I won't have time to order it. We have gone with another dose of Dros 6c and will see how it goes. He does say he likes this remedy as it makes him feel good.
Re: jumping to 200c, it was when reading M L Tyler where she discusses Hahnemann's and Kent's protocols of using high potencies of Drosea, which work better than the low doses. Kent apparently cured a long standing cough in 3-4 days with a 200c, single dose and Hughes had cures within 3-4 weeks using 6c repeated frequently. This is what gave me the idea to go up as the remedy seemed to be of benefit.
Ateq,
I checked over Rumex and it sort of fits but not really - shame, as I do have that remedy in my kit.

Hi Jayne,
What about further doses of 6c, or perhaps plussed up in water? Or trying
12 or 30 before jumping all the way to 200???

Jayne,
The head pressure as a concomittant to cough is shared by
2alu,3 bry, 2 chel,2 con, 2nit ac, 2pho, 2 ruta,2 sars (boger pg 723)
If he holds the head
Did he gasp after Dros ? If so it must be a proving reaction. If the
headache came after Dros, then the selection is wrong.
I believe the case needs sulph down the line since there is so
much suppression.
Sulph has bursting pain during cough, it is also a gasping
remedy. Plus it is thirsty. If he feels better in open air,
then sulph can be given. You will need at least 30 c to start.
Sulph is always given to clear out such long standing ones,
esp when it gets complicated.

Venkat

Re: Cough and sneezing
HI Shannon,
We could go 6c in water. I don't have 12c or 30c. The first "emergency kit" I bought from Bengal Allen was all 200c remedies, when I didn't really know better. I have been slowly adding more potencies but don't have a very large collection. Hopefully when I get settled in Australia in a few weeks I will find a source that will send me remedies in a few days so I don't have to try and prempt the remedies I need, months before I need them. It seems, the simillium is always one you don't have.

Re: Cough and sneezing
Thanks Venkat,
I will study your list. I have already discounted bry as he must move around during an attack, keeping still is definitely not there.
I chose Dros because he was gasping. This stopped while the remedy was active.
I am getting really frustrated with him as he refuses to stop smoking while he has this cough. He is also drinking coffee and rubbing eucalyptus oil on his chest.....
Another factor that is hard for me to rep is that there is no definite time modality. Sometimes he starts coughing at night, sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon or evening. Then he coughs for a few hours.
He had a sneezing attack last night, which he hasn't had for a while - after midnight, with itching in his nose, can't touch his nose because it makes it worse, and wandering around the house. This was a symptom from early in his illness. With any luck it can be seen as a return of symptoms or maybe the Dros has just been antidoted.
I am also wondering if our impending move is a maintaining cause as we will be moving to a country that is completely different culturally to anything he knows with lots of unknowns to face.

This wandering around the house is a characteric symptom of valer which also
has
the pain extending outward and failing that the neat remedy I would think of
is staph.
The following rubrics are suggeative and VES also came up with these 2 drugs

when worked on the following.
Hope this helps,

MIND - WANDERING - desire to wander - house; desires to wander about the
HEAD - PAIN - coughing - on
GENERALS - PAIN - extending to - outward
HEAD - PAIN - bursting - coughing, on
GENERALS - MOTION - amel.
GENERALS - MOTION - rapid motion - amel.
COUGH - SMOKING
GENERALS - TOBACCO - desire for tobacco - smoking; desire for
GENERALS - TOBACCO - agg. - smoking, when breaking of

Re: Cough and sneezing
It strikes me that the impending move has to be playing some role, and I'd use it as an inciting cause in my analysis, rather than a maintaining one. Ailments from.... bad news? anticipation? emotional excitement? Grief? (you'd have to find out the emotional meaning of the move).
I don't know if you used the earlier symptoms in your analysis, but if you need to change the remedy, I'd use them now, as part of a more complete picture.

And it is interesting that from a point of view of Drosera that this rx has
'anxiety about the future' as a very strong keynote. As you might know
Drosera is one of the carnivorous plants and the way it traps its prey is
due to hundreds of sticky fronds onto which the insects get stuck and thus
their future is full of anxiety, they are trapped. It is also a homesick
remedy. So if this rx does prove to be a healing remedy you might have
touched on a real learning situation.
Best wishes, Joy
