Had a patient in today who has had a biopsy after a suspect smear test. She says that she will probably be having cold coagulation treatment which lasts 30 seconds and is less painful than the biopsy. So what on earth is cold coagulation treatment - cryotherapy??

Re: Cold coagulation
Cold coagulation cannot be the same as hot cautery - the two terms are
mutually exclusive... cauterisation involves the use of a "heated"
instrument (cautery) while cryotherapy uses the application of "extreme
cold" via a cryoprobe.
Just to clear any confusion.

Re: Cold coagulation
Apologies but my previous post should have read this way instead:
However, Cold Coagulation, despite its name involves the use of
cauterisation to treat the cervix.
:-S
Again apologies for the slip - it's because I wanted to clear the confusion
