What do homeopaths think of this?
What do homeopaths think of this?
homeopaths generally feel very strongly about putting anything on the
skin through fear of suppression. I have spent a lot of time in the
last 2 years looking at this question and trying to understand better
what is suppressive and what isnt as I know from experience that the
right kind of topical applications can be helpful for a time during
the early stages of treatment in some severe skin cases.
Anyway, Centalla Asiatica or HYDROCOTYLE as we call it has been shown
in studies to PROMOTE PRODUCTION of type 1 and type 111 collagen when
applied to the skin. Skin aging is related to a decrease in collagen
levels and collagen also palys an important part in wound healing.
There is no drug that can do this and no other plant has been found to
be as effective at promoting production of new collagen in the skin.
So the question is, is it bad to do something like from your point of
view and if so why? How is it different to creating a health
promoting, nourishing external environment in other ways?
I welcome your views.

Re: What do homeopaths think of this?
I have already posted a case in this forum about a case of arthritis
for which I gave Ruta 30 and it brought out the same lesions as the
woman had had when bitten by a centipede for which she had applied
turmeric powder mixed with sesame oil a few years back. Turmeric is
something that women in India commonly use as face application. It is
also used in cooking. At the same time it has medicinal properties
and used in all kinds of poisonous bites. But still obviously this
has worked as a suppressive. Because after the lesions came out her
arthritis was completely cured. So I think this might work in a
suppressive way too esp. if applied as a therapeutic agent.
At the same time, Ayurveda ( which is one of the medicine-systems
supposed to have gone from India to the Western medical world to
create the ancient medical knowledge base) uses such external
medicated oils ( including Hydrocotyle) like nobody's business. Since
we all got a dose of this ancient wisdom, which many of us have lost
contact with, I guess this might be ok .
But your question is understandable and something similar to what I
had and posted here. What happens with all the deodarants, after
shave lotions and even soaps that we use day in and day out? We all
harbor all kinds of organisms in our body surface all the time and
also have micro lesions all the time due to normal wear and tear. Are
we not suppressing all these even unknowingly when we are getting
ready for the Saturday night fever?

Re: What do homeopaths think of this?
Maybe the turmeric paste was suppressive, but then again--the patient
you recently posted about also had a return of his reaction to the dye,
tho apparently no suppressive action had been taken. So I think it
might be better to consider these "returning symptoms" as "incompletely
resolved"--whether because of suppression, or simply because the body
did its best but wasn't able to completely eliminate the trouble. So
maybe it was unfair to blame the turmeric? I wonder whether the bite
might have left this aftermath of arthritis even if she had done
nothing at the time?

Re: What do homeopaths think of this?
I think it's useful to distinguish between palliation and suppression.
Some skin applications are soothing and supportive, tho in no way
curative. I have never heard of problems from e.g. applying olive oil
to dry skin, or oatmeal baths for chicken pox?

It is possible that it might not have been the "suppression" but an
elimination of poison.

Re: What do homeopaths think of this?
I agree--so that would fall under the category of "incompletely
resolved", yes?
My reason for wondering (just to clarify)--wondering whether the
turmeric was actually suppressive, meaning that it drove the trouble
inward to deeper and more troublesome levels (and no doubt chronic
arthritis is more troublesome than a presumably transient insect
bite!!), in which case the turmeric did a disservice; OR whether this
is what would have happened anyway (as in e.g. Lyme), and the turmeric
provided temporary relief to the skin, but was unable to cure, unable
to remove the deeper effects, in which case it was simply palliative,
harmless but insufficient.

Re: What do homeopaths think of this?
Dear Robyn:
I think this topic is very interesting. When are we suppressing? When are we
not?
I've used Centella Asiatica in the past, before practicing homeopathy, on
patients who complained of cellulite ( It's also supposed to stimulate
circulation). I don't think that all herbs are suppressive, but I don't mix
herbal treatments with homeopathy because they can interfere. I also know
that mixing certain herbs together can be very dangerous. At present time,
I've suspended herbal treatments altogether, since I've noticed that, when
homeopathy works, everything improves for the patient, including physical
beauty. Nevertheless, I use aloe as a moisturizer and it's supposed to be a
"medicinal" substance. I haven't noticed it doing anything for existing sx
or interfering with treatment. I guess we would have to look closely at the
definition of *suppression*. For example: taking a spoonful of royal jelly
in the morning, in my opinion, is not suppression just because it supports
nutrition. Now, if I was sure that the royal jelly was pushing existing
symptoms somewhere else or made them disappear, and new symptoms appeared...
I would assume that it's definitely causing a suppression.
That;s the way I view it. Hope someone can say something more interesting.
Best,
C.

Re: What do homeopaths think of this?
Hi Caro,
What you've said is very interesting
What I"m going to say is probably borng...
The only way to know if something is suppressing is to look at the
timeline of development of symptoms miasmatically as in disease
developemnt.
WIth cure, the reverse happens, both according to HEring's law and and
according to miasmatic improvement.
Another way of defininf suppression is when a "natura;" progression of
disease is DEVIATED by external means medicinal or otherwise. HEre is
a helpful definition:
"Suppression occurs by various means (drug induced, physical agents,
etc). Importnat to understnad about suppression is that induces a
change in the expected Direction of the Process of Disease. This
change is contrary to the Law of Cure (Hering). The changes casued in
disease expression due to this present the One Sided Cases,
Alternating states, Complex Disease, Tardy Convalescence and
Protracted Recovery, Disease with Addictions, Periodic or Episodic
Disease, Paucity of symptoms, Acute Fulminating Disease Expression,
etc.The only way to judge a suppressed case being cured, is to follow
Hering's Law of Cure, properly understood, with a well taken and
complete history."

Thanks Caro!
Sometimes when I re-read my own articles, I do wonder if people can
