Breech baby

Post by Rosemary C Hyde »

The books say to give Pulsatilla a couple of weeks before the due date to help a breech baby turn into the correct position. I'm sure someone on the list has had some actual experience with this situation and has worked on it homeopathically. What homeopathic advice would you offer for a young healthy women with a baby now in the breech position, who is due in two and a half weeks? Many thanks!

Rosemary

Except really very useful Pulsatilla I have good experience with typical
sycotic remedies (Med, Thuj,..), but it depends on the case.
Turning is successful in ca 2/3 women (about 50 cases total from my
practice). I have compared this ratio with my colleague acupuncturist
and he has similar figures - God knows why and when it is better for
baby and/or mother not to turn:-)

Exactly that - seen it work everytime it was used (200c or 1m given)
not always by me, but have had several cases related to me ( no not
that way)

My friend the midwife who uses homeopathy uses Pulsatilla 30C twice a week
until the baby has turned.

I used Pulsatilla once in this way, for a woman who had responded to
Pulsatilla at other times, and was close enough to a Pulsatilla state at the
time; it seemed to work--in any case, why not try? If Pulsatilla is really a
poor fit for the person, you might want to look at something better adapted
to the state you see.

Malpresentation-Pulsatilla given during pregnancy (typically one week
before labor is expected to begin) prevents malpresentation. If the child
is in improper orientation, this remedy with cause re-orientation. The
literature shows that this method has an efficacy of 95%. Malpresentation
may not resolve if labor has already begun. Only failures have been when
given too late (in case when given day before labor started) and a case of a
child who turned all night and ended up transversely, (but this baby had a
short cord) (a c-section was performed). This latter example is
illustrative that anomalies in homeopathic treatment are often due to
structural anomalies.

Wiet Van Helmond,

Yes ,Pulsatilla is very usewful in correcting the malposition and releasing
the neck from cord .
In case of woman during her first child birth-labor pains were there but
not progressing.Gyanecologist trying to induce the labor with
medicines.Patient was getting exhausted .Gyanecologist was planning for
ceasarean section. She was of openion that cord is arround the neck of
feoutus and in breach position delaying the child birth.
I started with Pulsatilla 200 in plus potency 3-4 doses at 1/2hr gap and
Pulsatilla 1M in plus potency 3 doses at 1/2hr gap. Pains increased within
1/2 hr of last dose of pulsatilla 1M and child was born with in another 1hr.
This girl was on Homoeopathy for any other complaints during full term of
pregnency .I start Pulsatilla 200 andPulsatilla 1M giving 7th,8thand 9th
month in advance.Majority have normal delivery .but few who develop
HyperTension go to ceasaren section

Hi,
Shouldn't we administer this sometime in the 34th - 36th week of pregnancy.

My wife has a baby in her tummy in the breach position....sometimes she has
a horrible
time due to the feet kicking at the abdomen....

As per acupressure....a 3 sec pressure on the little toe will position the
baby in a
comfortable position....

The above works....my wife gets immediate relief and also from outside I can
feel the
baby turn and settle down in a comfortable position.....well I do not know
if this
turns the baby in a correct position to come out....

Regards,
Sridhar

REPLY FROM DR. V. KRISHNAMURTHY.

Yes, we have treated and cured several cases. Just three doses of
Pulsatilla-1M every four or eight hours.
Please see the book THE ACCOUCHEUR's EMERGENCY MANUAL by Dr. W. A. Yingling,
M.D. He writes under Pulsatilla: "Abnormal presentations may be
righted if given before the membranes are ruptured or the presenting parts
are firmly engaged (This has been verified by the best prescribers.)

would send you by e-mail.

Three weeks before the date of delivery in the case of first child-birth
(and one week before the date of delivery in the case of subsequent
childbirth) the child in upright position turns upside down, descends down
further and the head is firmly fixed in the pelvis. If this does not
happen, doctors say 'head floating".
Homeo medicines would act only if and when the symptom is there. We cannot
give any remedy IN ADVANCE. Cure is easier and better than prevention, as
far as homeopathy is concerned. To learn all these good things you must go
to a good teacher.

Again, homeopathy is not a backdoor entry to medical practice. Homeopathy
is not to do away with knowledge of anatomy, pathology, differential
diagnosis etc. Otherwise, homeopathy ;would be pushed into disrepute.

experiences. It is also so sad when a baby dies before the parents.. not
supposed to be that way :-(
c/section. Wild horses would not have got me into hospital to labour after
the first baby. But a lot of my clients just would not labour well at home
because they believe that hospital is the safest place to be.
=====
A Placenta abruptio is more likely to be fatal to baby than mother when
undetected, and yes, a c/section is essential. For those that don't know,
this is where the placenta suddenly separates / comes away from the uterine
wall, before baby is born. It can be "hidden" so blood loss is kept behind
the placenta.
The first indication is usually very sharp, stabbing pains that are
different to labour pains.
I haven't heard of M Hanafin.

thanks for your kind offer
Did you give aconite because of her fear that she was going to die? When you
talk about mal presentation, from the mat meds I have seen so far, it is
always breech and occasionally Occiput Posterior (baby has it's back to the
mother's back, which was the case for me with my first VBAC), but can
homoeopathy really help with the face presentations and head that is not
well flexed?
I once gave aconite to a woman whose placenta still hadn't been birthed
after 2 hours. She had not urinated and whilst Aconite is usually indicated
for babies that don't wee, I gave her one 30C and within seconds, she wee'd
and the placenta dropped into the toilet. My next client does not have
internet access from her home, so I have a little time to work more on my
remedies..it is the fear and despondency rubrics and differentiation's I
need to work on

Hi all,

Burning moxa (artemesia vulgaris) on the acupuncture point bladder 67 is
supposed to bring the baby into the right position.

I have no experience - but also this is not something I just read in some
book or heard someplace. It is standard knowledge in traditional chinese
acupuncture.

Bladder 67 is easy to use - it is just outside the external angle of the
nail on the little toe.

Luise

Hi, Andy.

Thanks very much for your wonderful search. My daughter wrote to me about her friend who doesn't want to have a hospital birth, but 2.5 weeks before delivery has a baby that is in breech position. My guess is that most such babies would turn anyway by their due date, but it doesn't do any harm to help it along. I was surprised that my daughter actually looked it up in her book on homeopathy birth and babies, and asked me about it. When I first started studying homeopathy, she called it "Mom's voodoo!" and didn't want to have anything to do with it! Time heals, for sure. Now she's a mom, and I guess has gained a little wisdom about change and alternative possibilities -- and no longer feels as impelled as she did 10 years ago to think that mom knew nothing. :-)))

See you soon. Warmly, Rosemary

I agree with the Puls for turning the baby but it is also worth noting that
at times (esp if baby is big and already sitting low in uterus that it can
be helpful to sleep with the foot end of the bed raised a little ( not
always that comfortable if you have heart burn) as this allows gravity to
drop baby higher into uterus and clearer of the pelvis giving more room for
the baby to turn more easily. I can vouch for this as I had to use it twice
myself as living in central Australia I could not give birth at local
hospital unless babies were cephalic presentation by 37 weeks. I did not
know the wonders of homoeopathy in those days but turned two babies this
way. I massaged the babies from outside and encouraged them to turn - both
times took 1 1/2 nights before I could take the bricks out from under the
bed!!!
Regards Pauline
