Hi,
I am studying Calc to prescribe for a patient. Now she told me that
she took extra calcium tablets. Calc-chew D 500mg/400 I.E.
Each tablet has 1250mg calciumcarbon (which is the same as 500mg of
calcium) en concentrated cholecalciferol 4 mg( (which is the same as
10 micrgr of choleacalferol)
Verdr on ther is sorbitol, poluvidon, isomalt, aspartaam,
magnesiumstearaat, tocoferol, sucrose and gelatine inside.
I wonderded if this can affect the clac I thinking to prescribe.
Best regards, Willy

Re: calc
Hi WIlly,
I doubt taking Calcium tablets is going to interfere with your
prescription. I've never found supplementation to interfere with the
similimum unless it is working suppressively - as in certain herbs, etc.
The problmme with supplements is that they are usually prescribed in
excess, more than the body can really absorb. The requirement for the
body to keep a Calcium balance is very, very little - but whether it
can be absorbed is actually part of the "disease".
This is what the Calc Carb (if indicated homeoapthically) does. Helps
Absorb the required nutrients from food or supplements and then help
the body regain the balance through homeopathic stimulation of course!
But this you would know.

Hi Dr Leela,
Thanks for your answer.
I knew indeed that the calc helps to regain the balance in the body, but was
not quite sure what the extra supplement would do.
Every thing is clear now.
Thanks,
Willy

Re: calc
Hi Willy,
I would normally tell them to stop the calcium supplement. Read Kent's
lecture's on Mat. med for Calc.

Paul

Re: calc
Dear Willy
Firstly Calcium on its own is not much use to the body - it must be taken in
the correct proportions with Magnesium (Mg)
Also you should advise your patient to check labels and avoid anything that
contains ASPARTAME (See www.dorway.com)
If Calc is the Similimum of the patient, then it should work. But just keep
an eye on her symptoms and how they change.
Best wishes

Re: calc
My experience is that, if they feel an actual *need* for the
calcium--can't sleep without it, something like that--you could just
let them know that their need will probably begin to diminish. If they
are taking it just "on theory", then they might be better advise to
stop taking it at least for a time, because in some people calcium
supplements will actually *cause* symptoms, sometimes even the same
symptoms that they are supposed to relieve--because calcium needs
magnesium and other nutrients to be absorbed properly, and if taken
out-of-balance, the supplementation can backfire. (I speak from
personal experience on this one!)
But better not to change two things at the same time--If they feel okay
about stopping the calcium first, I'd choose that; if not, then start
with the remedy and try removing the calcium later.
That's my thought...

Re: calc
Yes Willy, once she's on Calc Carb, she need not take Calcium
supplements, except if she has gross symptoms of Calcium and vitamin D
deficiency - (these are well documented in medical textbooks). Its
common seen in India.
