Ignatia
Hi, List
A case of High BP with out any discomfort or obvious symptoms ( since
last 5- 7 years ) the BP is High as 220/110 mm of Hg at rest always
( in the last three four consultation) We have given her specifics as
she was not responding to her constitutional medicine. She has to walk
for some half hr to reach the Govt free Homoeopathic dispensary. So
earlier she used to sit for half hr before coming in to the consultation
room, last day just out of curiosity i took her BP immediately when she
came and it was 140/80 and again took it after 15 min then it was
210/110.
Now the Question is :-
I want to know does it indicate and failure of the heart to compensate
the work load, or it is just a important symptom for us the
Homoeopath's. She had only slightly raised respiratory rate after walking.
Looking forward

Re: Ignatia
Does this patient get anxious/nervous when about to see a practitioner? I'm
just guessing but it seems that is possible from the two readings in the two
circumstances.

Hello Nandana,
Sorry to be full of questios !
You said the pt had no obvious discomfort. But on what external
manifestation did she come to you in the first place ? Mark this out
very well. This is what Hahnemann calls the one sided case and you
are going to prescribe on a scant list of symptoms.
Again, the constitutional medicine you just described. On what
grounds was it selected ? I will be tempted to give it only in the
case of well marked generals - at least three. Also I will look up at
a constitunal angle if
1. The indicated remedy did not work
2. The remedy worked well and the main complaint returned
We will help you if you could clarify the above.
Regards
Venkat

Re: Ignatia
I had a patient like that, suffering from high blood pressure, but we eventually came to think of it as a "white coat symptom". Her constitutional remedy was Nat-mur, which was interestingly enough in a tiny rubric like "fear of doctors" or something similar.

Re: Ignatia
Can anyone give me a picture of what Ignatia would present in a baby please?
Thanks

Re: Ignatia
perhaps something paradoxical? perhaps some reflection of Mother's or family's state. spasms? shuddering? changeable?
Reading Vermeulen see grunting during sleep. Probably worth a read? Interesting. Best wishes, Jean

Re: Ignatia
Not a great deal different in any age - crying but if they are not crying this will be diverted into nervous sx such as twitching, there could well be a crying that seems to get stuck in the throat, the globus, will cause a strange type of crying as though choking, likely they will have trouble sleeping, alternating moods could be apparent, they could scream if left and physical sx will match as per MM.

Re: Ignatia
Hi Rochelle,
How old a baby?
Morrison:
[...] While there are many true constitutional Ignatia cases, the majority of cases where Ignatia is indicated have this state imprinted on top of another remedy due to a specific grief or set of griefs. This fact has led many authors to state that Ignatia is a short-acting or superficial remedy. It is certainly the case that when grief has caused pathological changes in the tissue rather than functional disorders we prefer remedies like Natrum Muriaticum or Aurum. However as noted below, Ignatia covers many particular physical disorders, some of which are serious indeed, especially in the neurological sphere.
------------
So--it could be there--even in a baby--either as reaction to a situation (has the baby's home situation been normal?), or could be the baby's innate ("constitutional") state. Which I guess would be a tougher read in a baby, but I'd guess that even in a baby, emotional sensitivity and tendency toward (physical and emotional) spasticity (easily startled?) would be observable?
What makes you wonder about it for this one?
Shannon

Re: Ignatia
Thanks - sounds about right. Gave 1 yr old baby Ignatia - confirmed when I found out Mum (who is in a psychiatric hospital at the moment) went through the whole of the pregnancy grieving about an early miscarriage she couldn't get over!! I fed baby lunch (that was nice) and then she went to sleep for a nap which she hadn't been doing since dad brought her to his father's house. Lots of tips needed on how to look after/feed the baby as his father's partner has never had a child. Just spoken to them and I've been told child has woken up and there is a completely different atmosphere in the house. Despite giving Ignatia I wonder if this child may go to Phos eventually- as she engaged with me the moment I said hello.

Dear Shannon,
I guess you got the picture from my last post!!! Thanks also to Jean. I sent this request before I went to see the baby just knowing that Mum wasn't around. So Ignatia was confirmed by mother's state.
