The adverse effects of 'change of water' is something that is experienced by some travellers. Waters around the world vary considerably in their constituents and minerals that it carries.

For example a lot of water in Scotland is soft and straight from the mountains, where as that in the London area has been through a few people (did it start in Newcastle as beer?), has been heavily treated and is HARD - full of salts that can be seen in any kettle.

One of the ways of avoiding this problem is to carry the 'memory' of your home water with you.

Take a bottle of water from your usual source and the take your drinks from this source.
But replace whatever you have used with fresh water from your new source.

I personally use water that has been treated by passing through a reverse osmosis unit. It is almost pure WATER.

The most modern method of water treatment now days uses OZONE and also UV radiation. (used extensively for bottled water).
Ozone (Three oxygen atoms combined with each other) is a very strong oxidising agent and is produced whenever there is an electrical arc. (Those working in photocopier rooms must be warmed to have a good source of fresh air as ozone is a by product of photocopying and LASER printing - headache is one of the signs of ozone poisoning). Ozone treated water is tasteless and odourless.
Some swimming pools are now being converted to use ozone rather than chlorine. Much safer and more pleasant to swim in. No stinging eyes!

Whereas chlorine gives residual protection against contamination by disease agents which may enter through breaks in the municipal distribution pipe work, ozone does NOT!

In USA I would suggest you look in your Yellow Pages under Water Treatment
and then select companies that supply home reverse osmosis units. Depending
on your requirements, these units can fit under the kitchen sink.
These units do 'waste' a fair amount of water, but you can use the waste
water for gardening etc.
