This happened with my husband's father, also. He could not wear a watch,
everytime he did the watch mysteriously stopped working within hours.
(He died in 1972 at age 78 yrs old) He had to wear a pocket watch
wrapped in plastic. That worked for him.

It is curious, and was the subject of many family discussions.

I too would be happy for an explaination.

warmly, Maria

Error in my last post--it appears that Lanthanides ("rare earths") are
probably not particularly unstable, being in early part of the 6th
period, and thus not tending to be radioactive. It is elements in the
latter part of the 6th row, and the 7th row, which gets "too big for
its britches" and emits particles that cannot hold in its structure.

Thus, the idea that people needing a Lanthanide rx might be leaking
energy, thus are "healers" may not be a useful hypothesis regarding the
watch phenomenon--if this is an indication for Lanthanides--which
Scholten has put forth. An instability mechanism would also not fit
the other candidates mentioned in that last mail either.

Hence the correction.

Best,
Andy
