RE: HYOS Gollum does not steal the Ring he KILLS him for it because he is so overcome and possessed and obsessed with his desire for his "precious".
The one Rubric that eliminates Hyos from the emotional plane is that Gollum understands and laments with Frodo the pain Frodo is going through, Rubric: Sympathetic: manc.
The closer that Frodo comes to the Fires of Mount Doom, the greater the mania and dissociative split grows within Gollum's mind; his fear is an overwhelming mania of not being able to survive without his "precious" to protect him. He becomes tortured by his desire to once again possess his "precious." "We wants it, we wants it, we wants it!" P.296. [Tolkien] The Two Towers. Morrison says of Mancinella, "There is an obsession with evil forces, with the devil, or with ideas of demoniac possession. Also sexual ideas may be mingled with obsessions." When Gollum on the chasm of Mount Doom manages to take the Ring from Frodo, "Gollum cried. 'My Precious! O my precious!' And with that, even as his eyes were lifted up to gloat on his prize, he stepped too far." The key sensation and theme of Mancinella is obsession and fear of possession by the Devil. Even as Gollum falls in to the depths of the Mount Doom his last words were "precious." In the film The Lord of The Rings directed by Peter Jackson, the ecstatic pleasure in Gollum's face and eyes has he finally holds his desired love and exclaims "O my precious!" reveals the sexual Mancinella cross over between the "demoniac possession," "mingled with obsessions" that Morrison refers to. Gollum is in love with his "precious," and he also hated it; it was a Mancinella relationship of obsession and possession. Gandalf pointed out Gollum "hated everything, and the Ring most of all." In The Two Towers when Sam overhears Gollum's tormented discussion with himself he realizes that Gollum was not interested in eating Hobbit meat, as he had previously thought; he instead "was feeling the terrible call of the Ring." Even Sam at Mount Doom in the battle leading up to the chasm, cannot finally destroy Gollum.
