In the email below you suggest that the fact that people are using PC1 on
a 'suck it and see' basis is fine. I too know people who prescribe it,
usually alongside remedies chosen for the symptoms as presented by the
patient at the time, which I believe has been Peter's recommendation to
them. I also, incidentally, know people who use combination remedies and,
unlike Dave, have met several patients who swear by them and I know combo
practitioners with many, many years experience . It is not what I do,
because I feel more comfortable if I understand what I am giving people
and can justify it according to principles which I can broadly adhere to,
(though some might not consider me a strictly 'classical' prescriber). I
do agree with you, though,
that we shouldn't be attempting to police what others do anyway. My
concern is the double-think that appears on this list when a process is
judged
according to who is promoting it - the aforementioned logical instincts
are offended!

In addition I agree with everything David Little said concerning the
generally accepted healthcare ethics and standards and would add that in
the UK at least it is not legal to promote a 'cure' for certain diseases,
notably Cancer, STDs and TB. Whilst I know that these diseases can
be effectively treated with homeopathy I can understand where the law is
coming from and have sympathy with any African government which decides
that they
don't want people offering an unproven treatment/cure for AIDS where even
the practitioner does not know what is in it and which doesn't involve
condoms! I am sure practitioners concerned would not recognise this as
what they are doing but I am trying to look at it from the recipients point
of
view. Provings and controlled clinical trials with patients who are fully
aware of what that means would bring this remedy into the established
homeopathic fold and make it easier to justify its use.And of course
prescribers would need to know what it was before it was more widely used.
