Need help

Post by Alva Irish »

Ok,
I have a puzzling one for me.
Lady came in with her skin red and peeling in all her creases.
That is under the breasts, her sile creases, beside her nose, her under
arms, her crotch.
Skin has an odor where it is peeling.
Any help ?
Thanks,
Alva

Hi, Alva -- I think the rubric word for that is "intertrigo." Three remedies have intertrigo with odor: Kreosote, Mercurius, and (no surprise) Sulphur.

Desquamation would be what you are looking for = excessive peeling and
flaking of the skin and you said in another post that the odour is like
something dead which = cadaverous, and although you don't say anything else
about the case this makes me think of Arsenicum album which has 'free
desquamation' and the odour of Arsenicum is nearly always cadaverous. Worth
looking at.

Hope useful, Joy.

Hi As Joy said Desquamation is what you look for. Also rubric
psoriasis will be helpful. In Boericke under Skin there is a rubric
called Pityriasis. (Exfoliative dermatitis). The 'dead' smell could
be because of the exfoliated skin cells.

Of the remedies there - and from Knerr

Thuja and Silicea have cadaverous odor.
I have used Graphites, Amm.carb, Mang.aceticum for similar conditions
with exfoliation and in flexural conditions.
Kali.ars, Merc, Tellurium, Piper meth. etc, are also good.
I have used Bacillinum, Psorinum and Thyroidinum as intercurrents.
May be you should be looking for more symptoms in other spheres at
least to confirm the remedies.

Hope this helps.

Thank you!
There is one other symptom that occurred at the very same time.
On her left lower lip on the inside there is a white bump. Nothing in it,
not squeezable.

But I would also include Rosemary's suggestion of intertrigo to cross
reference. It is just that this condition is so common, especially amongst
people who are obese or plump that you have to look for curious sx within
that sphere and the peeling is one of them as is the odour which needs to be
carefully questioned. It is usually perspiration which causes the eruptions
or change in skin quality and contributes to the odour.

To what extent is this happening around the nose as intertrigo is about
surfaces rubbing together and it is hard to visualise a face that either is
so plump or the wings of the nose so large that they actually rub together.

You have to be careful about secondary fungal infections in the effected
areas.

The whole case will help lead you towards the right remedy choice.
