virus infection

Post by Liz Lalor »

I have worked out what I thought was a genuine inquiry about my fertility program was the cause of an amazing virus that by passed all of my anti virus systems. I from now on am not going to answer any inquires that comes from this site as personal emails. This is unfortunate as I have given a lot of input to a lot of people privately but the hoax people are getting more sneaky. I don't know if anyone else is having this problem?

Hi Liz,

When you say you will not answer "any inquiries that come from this site as
personal emails", do you mean that a listee sent you a virus on purpose, in
guise of an inquiry, or did I misunderstand? Surely private e-mails that
don't contain any attachment are safe?

Anything that *says* it's from Minutus but contains an attachment, is *not*
from Minutus and is undoubtedly infected, but maybe that's not what you
meant...

Hi,
No virus can be distributed directly from the list. If anything is distributed it is from the individuals. No attachment can be distributed via Minutus mailing list.

Ardavan

Yes, I received it, too. Besides, I have seen today that a (stripped) virus message was sent to the list, apparently from my computer. Yesterday I updated my antivirus and checked my whole HD. My computer was and is virus-free. Nevertheless, it is embarrassing...

Hi shannon I meant that one private email about my fertility program was yes
indeed a virus that by passed Norton anti virus !!! so all future private
responses unforunately I will avoid which is sad as it is good to help but
this virus thing is really mean someone has it in for this site?

Hi Liz,

Sorry to press this, but it's important... I assume the virus came in an
attachment, which would not infect you if you don't open it? Or does your
system open attachments automatically (and if so surely there's a way to
change that?)?

Also, I'm confused... If a post has "Minutus" in the subject line (as will
any private reply to a list post), I can't tell that it's private *until* I
open it and check the "to" space. Is yours different? I think I'm still
confused about just what happened, but figure that what's happened to you,
can happen to others too (Despite the fact that Minutus does *not* pass
viruses, viruses can come looking *as if* they're from Minutus [or from
anywhere else]. Which stinks...)

When I receive an attachment I think *might* be legitimate but isn't
specifically mentioned by the sender, I ask whether they did indeed send it
before opening. Do you have reason to think your sender *knew* they were
sending a virus, and intended to do that?

no no attachment but when I replied that was the problem and it was a
private NOT through minitus but said they had the info off minitus that does
make sense so I thought it was genuine and it didn't get sent and the
computer guy said that was the problem one and I shoudn't have answered it !
