Interesting!!

Post by Rochelle »

Thought you would be interested to know that I have just phoned a patient who had post natal blues after her baby to see how she was after the Rx I gave her last week. She said that she was fine now but that she took a senna tablet because she was constipated and the week old baby who she is breast feeding got diarrhoea and was grumpy for a couple of days!!!! This definitely shows that things get through to the breast milk!!

All the best

Dear Rochelle

Herbs in any fashion are quick to go through the milk and some babies can be
upset by them.
A couple of intersting ones in my experience include aloe vera used by the
mother to help her sore and bleeding nipples. She was careful to wash it off
before feeds but within 2 days the baby had copious gelatinous stool!

On another occasion a mother brought her baby to me for a "blood blister" on
the anus. She'd done the rounds of the paediatric specialists who were
mentioning surgery. She was drinking copious amoiunts of chamomille tea and
the baby had a severe almost constant tenesemus. My "diagnosis"...the
beginnings of a haemorrhoid! She stopped the tea and I gave the baby Cham
and the offending lesion gradually subsided.

kind regards
Patricia

.........also, taking vitamin and mineral supplements whilst breast-feeding can cause the baby to have bad colic symptoms
