From your mail I am taking a few themes

1. That Lilienthal's is a very good work and the best
in its category.
2. That most homeopaths make too much of location,
sensation and modality.

Lilienthal himself says in the preface that it is a
compilation from the works of homeopaths of his time
and before and also from the repertories. No doubt it
offers a quick look from 'a cured case' viewpoint but
we should remember that those 'unprivileged'
homeopaths had to go thru the drudgery of 'location,
sensation, modality' etc. I have used Lilienthal
seeing your strong recommendation, and found it also
useful. But a repertory offers you tremendous
opportunity when a case is well taken. Each case being
unique as a rule (and similar by exception), will it
not pay rich to the user a well rounded repertory ?

Finally, there is a question on excessive reliance on
repertories. Dr Roberts, in one of his discussions,
says that when you take a repertory, you accept your
shortcoming in your knowledge of the materia medica.
He further goes on saying that only cases that do not
stand out clearly or present a muddy picture need
repertorial confirmation. He says the need of a
repertory will be for one or maximum two symptoms for
a wise homeopath. For clear cases, the repertory is
not at all needed , he argues.

As a customary concluding tail piece, can we say, each
method has its benefits and shortcomings ?
