re notation/was private goitre ( is there any other kind?)
Joy's list is as in back of British National Formulary (pharmacists' bible)
but it does say there that unabbreviated English directions are preferable
in directions given to patients. Makes sense. In England, at least.

The q or Q in QD is there for the latin word, which I forgot, saying
"every", hence "every day" meaning once a day.
That is what I was taught and what is used in English speaking practices and
hospitals.
Maybe the latin is wrong, but the convention is there............
