Managing slow healing

Post by Ellen Madono »

Dear Shannon,

Lycopodium fit the big picture, but at that time I was too eager to reach for the powerful polycrest and didn't have the analytical skills to look for the softer plant remedy. The problems were so severe and deep I thought that I needed to go deep.

Also, I gave directions poorly. Just before I was leaving town for 3 weeks, I told her to increase to 3x/day. For some reason, she got the idea that she could put the remedy into her water bottle and drink it throughout the day. Because I was not home and couldn't talk to her she continued after the aggravations. This is like a recitation on sins past. I feel so bad. Now, I know about phone cards and email. Phone is the best when you can't talk in person.

She is now using bryonia (still 6 c 2x/day for last month) and we are working on a smaller part of her problems. The huge aggravations with Lyc took away fear that was not allowing her to look objectively at her financial situation. Through Lyc she lost the fear and when she took off the blinders she discovered that with her current job she was heading for bankruptcy. After she losing fear, she made a number of very daring decisions and did a few excessively fearless moves. She has now pulled herself out of those consequences and is still having a very hard time just going in the direction that she has always wanted to go in, without overwhelming fear --- no, with incredible courage. Minor physical problems are down, and fear no longer dominates, but there is still a lot of anxiety. I feel that anyone would be anxious in her position.

I know the high potency homeopath would say go higher to get at the mental symptoms. But I'm afraid to do that. Also, with my teacher, Tom Heard, in our clinicals and on my own, I am seeing plenty of high level emotional/mental amelioration with low potencies slowly building. The mental/emotional changes often happen at the 6 c level. Especially when they are the chief complaint. I will talk to her tonight and find out if we are making progress. When the client's life becomes so tumultuous because of strong healing as well as strong aggravations, we have to move slowly. She now knows the power of the remedies and is willing to go slow. So we are both learning.

When she was taking lyc 6 c even after the huge aggravations she was still so aggressive with her own treatment that when I told her to do 4 dilutions she was eager for progress and on her own quickly stepped up to 3 and soon after 2 dilutions. Immediately, she got the aggravations (diarrhea, nasty anger at loved ones and insomnia).

I wonder if the initial aggravations didn't just stir up the waters and create a more sensitive organism? She is a kundalini yogini and sensitivity is the name of the game. Through increased self sensitivity comes healing in yoga.

In the very beginning, I tried also LM's on her, but when I realized how sensitive she was, I pulled it down to 6 c 1x a day and building to 3x/day. While she was doing 1-2x/day nothing much happened. Probably I was not careful enough to catch the progress. When she started 3x/day and I was gone, that's when fireworks started (taking the remedy in a water bottle). Her own compulsiveness about healing quickly set in. Part of the problem is she understood that more often is stronger and assumed it was better. I also had that impression, so I was not holding her back firmly. She thought that this extreme dilution was some kind of game like tarot cards. A mental fix. I think I told her something like, aggravations often occur before the healing. So she thought more aggravations were better. It was crazy. I think also that being inexperienced, I was being pulled into her neurotic approach to healing -- quick, all or nothing ...

Despite this horror story, she thinks I am a wonderful healer. Figure that one out??

I am getting a lot better at checking change. So when the client says nothing happened, I can find out what really happened. It's all about convincing the client that something is happening even when it is not fireworks. And that they don't really want fireworks. If they are getting strong aggravations, I need to think about the whole picture. As Tom says, managing the case is most of the battle. Choosing the right remedy is only the beginning.

Respectfully,
Ellen Madono
