Re: Find the Remedy 114

Post by Arlene Kellman, DO »

From Case's Cases:

A machinist, aged sixty - five years, came from the hands of an old
school surgeon, who urged prostatectomy as the only possible relief. A
catheter had been necessary several weeks.
Frequent urging to micturition, even when the bladder is empty.
He can force out a few drops of urine, and these feel "like a red
hot wire running through the urethra."
Severe pain in glans penis while these drops are passing.
The lumbar region and hips are so weak that it is difficult for him
to sit or stand upright.
The curative remedy must cover the peculiar or extraordinary
symptoms of the patient (Organon par. 153). Therefore the peculiar pain
in glans penis while urinating was taken as the leading symptom. Six
remedies have that symptom, viz: Acon., Act. sp., anac., Cas.,____ ,
Prun. sp. all of these excepting Casc., have the frequent urging; Acon.
and ____ have the burning in urethra; in urethra; Acon., ____, and Prun.
have retention of urine: ____ and Prun. have dribbling urine; ____ only
has of urine; ____ and Prun. have dribbling urine; ____ only has the
remaining symptoms, weakness in lumbar region and hips.
He passed water naturally the third day after ____ was taken,
freely in a week, and has no trouble in doing so since them, more than
three years.

No. 6, page 257.
Mrs. S., age about 55, suffered for several days from an
excruciating attack of lumbago. Her physician [homoeopathic] had about
exhausted his knowledge of applicable remedies in her behalf. On the
fifth day I was called by telegraph [being then in New York City], and
on arrival found her presenting the following symptoms, and taking Rhus
tox.: Terrible pain in the lumbar region, extending down the thighs and
over the region of both kidneys; extremely anxious to change position
frequently, but the slightest movement, assisted or unassisted, caused
her to shriek out in agony; frequent desire to pass large amounts of
urine, but the pain on moving was so great that she would shrink from
the attempt; legs numb and very weak and cold; pulse rapid; short,
distressed breathing in general, though at times there were intervals of
easier respiration; appetite normal, though swallowing was difficult and
painful. I prescribed _____ 30th in half-hour doses, and had the
pleasure of hearing that two hours afterward she could be placed upon
the vessel with very little pain. She sat up twelve hours after, and in
twenty-four hours was entirely relieved.

From Blackwood Materia Medica:

This remedy is indicted in those cases in which there is excruciating pain
that is beyond Description.
- The pains are worse when the patient thinks of them.
- They are excruciating in spots, are worse from motion and have periods of
remission.
- It should be thought of in oxaluria, when there is pain in the region of
the kidney, with frequent and copious urination.
- The urine is a clear straw color.
- There is burning in the urethra and pains in the glans of the penis when
urinating.
- The urine contains calcium oxalates, and albumen; when the patient thinks
of urination he must go at once to urinate.
- It is to be remembered in spermatic neuralgia when there are terrible
neuralgic pains along the spermatic cord.
- These are made worse from motion and the urine contains oxalates.
- It should be studied in seminal vesiculitis when there is exhaustion,
increased frequency in micturition which is attended with pain and burning,
the testicles are usually very sensitive, there is great sexual excitement,
while the urine contains oxalates.
- It has been of service in multiple cerebral sclerosis when there are
lancinating pains which are like electric currents in various parts, now in
the forehead, again in the occiput, with tremor of the limbs, numbness of
the fingers and toes and hyperaesthesia of the sight.
- It is also of service in posterior spinal sclerosis when there are pains
of a shooting character extending from the spine down the limbs, they may be
jerking pains confined to small spots and lasting only a moment.
- The patient complains of muscular prostration, dyspnoea and a general
weakness and numbness.
- It has been found beneficial in myelitis when there is a general weakness
about the hips and loins that extends down the legs which are apt to be cold
and bluish.
- There are pains that come and go in small circumscribed spots and are
aggravated from thinking of them.
- under Picric acid there is a sensation of heaviness while under [remedy]
it is a sense of numbness.
- It has relieved gastralgia. The attack appears after eating, there is
pyrosis and a sensation of coldness between the epigastrium and umbilicus.
