Dear Group,
Thanks to a few members who wanted a yogic remedy for Hyper tension,
I am giving it too.
This is the first of a three part series. After reading
it if you respond that it is useful, I will
enthusiastically prepare the other two and post
Armed with our knowledge that BP is just a symptom of a(many) disease
and not a disease per se, and also the fact that it is not a
permanent symptom, I write this piece.
AUM (OR AMEN) METHOD :
The place:
In a well ventilated, neither hot nor chilly place,on a neither soft
nor hard mattress, not disturbed by telephone or anyone for twenty
minutes this is best practiced.
The posture:
Lie down on your back arms a little apart, palms upturned , heels
six inches apart and toes hanging by their weight opposite to
each other. Feel the weight of your body on the mattress. Adjust
for stress in any part. Head and neck fully relaxed.
Procedure:
Slowly inhale and exhale a few times. Now, while exhaling, say
mentally a......mmmmmennnnn in an extended manner.( even aaauuuummmm).
This should last the full exhalation. Then again during the next
exhalation, say it again. Say it in a manner best enjoyable
to you. Never force the word. After a few or many utterings,
you may drift away into thought (which you will never know
until you come back). After you have returned from your driftings
utter the word again. After a few utterings you may still go away
into thoughts. Don't resit them. Once you are reminded of coming back
(which is unexplainable, the going away and coming back),say the word.
The whole period should be gentle never forcing the sound.
Involvement with a peculiar thought during the process will waste
your real time of relaxation. But as one observing as an onlooker
status is best. Sudden long sighs during the process are clear
indications that you are on the right track.
Stay with it for about twenty minutes. You might sleep off
in the first few occasions. Tell someone to call you after
an hour if you still don't come out. I have heard from my
instuctors that the first sleep (or it is some deep state
which might last upto four hours or more and best not
disturbed. I saw many people in the place in many sunk
poses for many hours.).getting up should be very slow.
The daily sessions can be morning & evening. Other points are
1. You can choose your own sound like Jesus,or Allah or Ram
or even the name of someone you like. But make sure the sound
contains a,u,m or atleast one of them and it is short.
2. the same place every day is best- where you pray or read, don't
sleep,don't eat.
3.Some pleasant perfumes or an insense stick kept away is another
which adds to the relaxation.
Now, after you finish, check your BP. A pleasant surprise !
caution:
If during the process, you feel irritable,or become angry, flush red
and hot, then, the sound can be changed. If still bad, stop it.There
is
another method.
Now, after you finish, check your BP. A pleasant surprise !
This can be practiced while sitting also, by joining both palms
fingers one between the other, tip of thumbs joined. This can be
in your clinic, office,in the bus or train.
Do not be unduly bothered if something like a fast fan irritates,
or an ant or a mosquito disturbs. Open your eyes, correct them and
continue.
********************************************************************
This is a variation of the ancient Siddhi meditation of India.
Maharishi mahesh yogi calls it Transcendental meditation.
Continued practice will calm your mind and senses, relax the
grip of chronic ailments. All the experiences are individual
and the bottomline is overall improvement.
Enjoy and transcend your consciousness.
