We are, as a nation, unaware because the mass media is under the control of the controlling
oligarchy in this country. It is always the responsibility of individuals to seek out information.
However, not to be naive, the population is grossly mis-educated and cant even begin to ask
the right questions, not knowing how to even think about many issues.
FYI, I have participated in a national effort to do education about the patriot act. If you go to the BORDC web site
you will be incredibly surprised at this effort to have individual municipallities take stands in support of
civil liberties. When i worked on this locally, almost 2 years ago, we got two local municipalities to
pass resolutions in support of civil liberties and received some decent local press. We were # 33 & 35 (i think) to do so. Today there are 3 States and 232 municipalities representing over 30 Million people who have taken action.
Also, the ACLU has been waging an active campaign to repeal the patriot act and to inform. you can sign onto both of these organizations for e-mail updates, or just visit their web sites. There is a growing underground movement in this country and the internet has been a most powerful tool.
I would also recommed a documentary that i have recently seen called The Revolution will not be Televised. It
is an incredible presentation of the coup against Hugo Chavez, about 2 years ago in Venezuela. One of the
strongest points in this video is a portrayal of the power of the media in performing public manipulation.
