IUD

Hi

One of my patients (first consultation) complained of heavy bleeding and it
transpired that she was wearing and IUD.

I prescribed her Lach (indicated remedy) and with her next period, IT CAME
OUT!

Dear all

Following on from the bristle incident, does anyone have experience of using
silicea in order to expel an IUD? Patient is desperate to avoid surgical
interference- again!

Oh I had to laugh out loud!! ))))

No she did not! I guess she was careful!!

But really in actual fact she had said she wanted to go to her GP to have it
removed!!

Thanks for the insight Soroush - on this one, however, there are no other
symptoms and no indicated remedy, except the lady's desire to get rid of the
IUD without having to go through the doctor's again! She is otherwise a
healthy individual. So, would one prescribe on the constitutional type
bearing in mind there is no aparent pathology? Would one consider the
lady's desire not to be interfered with as "pathology" and prescribe on
that?
Just some musings into the pot )

This was a long case of course and the IUD was a maintaining cause as far as
the bleeding was concerned. This woman was not well and the IUD was only
part of a picture. What I wanted to convey was that the IUD was making her
worse and as soon as the VF was stimulated it got rid of it.

As far as being interfered with is concerned, my feelings are that both
sexes are reluctant to submit themselves to internal examinations involving
vagina or rectum. Often there is a feeling of invasion (and
shyness/embarrassment as well). For this reason many men leave their
prostate symptoms until often it is too late.

I think faced with such a scenario, it would be worth while gently probing.
Pls go carefully however, in view of the high statistic of how many people
(male and female) who have been sexually assaulted in their lives.
