tongue chewing

Post by Theresa Partington »

Hi,
I have a patient (62 yrs old) who for several years has chewed her tongue
round the edges till it is quite sore. The senstaion that compels her to
chew is not an itch, not a burn, not quite a tingle.
This is not her presenting case or what she requires to be treated but I
would have liked to be able to reperotise it and see what came up. The
tongue is a bit pink round the edges but not outstandingly so. She has had
itchy eyes ( allergy) and restless legs (hormones) and had wondered if this
tongue thing was hormonal too. I mention this in case it all forms part of a
more general rubric.
Can anyone help with a rubric or two or a remedy that they just *know* ?

BW

Theresa

You may want to look at Chamomilla and Bufo specifically for the problem
here.

Dear Theresa,
Two rubrics I found.
1. Knerr's repertory: Tongue- bites- when neither
eating nor chewing- dioscorea villosa
2. Boger's Synoptic key: Tongue bites:Ign,Vip
Ignatia bites during eating. Dioscorea is worth a
look. It has some nervousness also.
Best
Venkat

Dear Theresa

Do you think this behaviour constitutes a "tic"?
If so, I would look at Carc.

Hi Theresa,

Arum T has tingling in parts compelling them to pick, even though they are
sore - Your patient is not "picking" ofcourse, but it seemed pretty similar

Arun
