Swollen Joints

Hi all,

I've had this really strange development, wondering if anyone can offer
ideas. Yesterday afternoon I suddenly started to feel discomfort in left
hand, and over the ensuing hours a swollen, arthritic feeling has taken in
both hands/wrists and then both feet/ankles. Now one shoulder seems to be
affected too, as well as chest.

This is SO WEIRD!!!!! There's "context", of course, but nothing that seems
like a clear connection. I had a flu-ish episode a couple of days back and
mild sore throat, then this joint stuff started. Could Lyme come on so
suddenly? (And no, I'm not aware of any tic bites or rashes.) Haven't
eaten anything unusual, or any unusual exposure that I'm aware of. Does
anyone have thoughts about what might come on this way????

Also, what would be the rubric to cover his: First soreness was left hand,
then right; then left foot, then right; then left shoulder (waiting on the
right). Would this be "alternating sides"?

Looks like acute allergic erysipelas or acute nephritis - watch for
reddening of skin and swelling of tissues. Keep a watch for urine
output. Don't neglect to check urine for albumin.

Get your thinking clear on the nature of the illness. Thereafter think
of rubrics. Valuable time is lost with pre-occupation with finding
rubrics only to realize that the disease is gaining an upper hand.

Two remedies to study in this case: BOTH ACUTE REMEDIES: APIS MEL AND

Thanks Dr. Paraki,
Is checking the urine for albumin something I can do at home? Sounds like I
should check in with my "regular" doc...
There's no reddening so far, and I don't notice any change in urine
output, but there seems to be a little edema(?) at the sorest points -- e.g.
between 2d and 3d knuckles, and a couple of other areas. Very slightly
bluish (*very* slight). I'll try to follow up tomorrow.

In my experience, the bite of the deer tick becomes very inflamed, hot, and itchy, much like a spider bite, minus the weepy discharge you often see after spider bites. It can take a week or more for symptoms to develop. You can feel great, then a few hours later crash into a fever, malaise, etc. Well before that stage (and well after it, too), there's a terrific headache that won't go away. The bulls-eye rash appears after about a week. Then the skin starts feeling raw and abraded, but joints aren't necessarily swollen. Nerve symptoms manifest after about a month (Bell's palsy, etc.).

As you describe the onset, it sounds rather like carpal tunnel syndrome, but that wouldn't explain the swelling and pain elsewhere or the alternating sides sxs. Could this be a flu? If so, it will probably resolve fairly quickly with a little supportive treatment.

having had lyme disease, i can say that the sx are not necessarily dramatic. i never had fever, flu sx, headache, fatigue, etc.
after an unknown period i developed severe nerve pain across my back and about a week later developed bell's palsy. it was
a total shock to me to wake up looking like i had a serious stroke. if you think you might have been bitten, you can get a lyme
blood test. you dont have to take the allopathic treatment if that's how you want to go.

Shannon, My husband looked this up in a Scientific guide and this is what it says:
Symptoms of Lyme disease can be sever, including acute headache to more serious nervous system impairment, symptoms resembling rheumatoid arthritis, expanding red rash on or near the tick bite, low grade fever, abdominal and joint pain,dizziness, and stiff neck. Most of the cases occur during the summer, because this is the time people are out hiking in areas infested by the tick vector, which is active then and might receive a bite from an infected tick. Persons living in or visiting the Lyme disease areas who develop theses symptoms after receiving a tick bite should consult their physician. Hopefully someone will help with this. It's important that you don't let it go too long. Immediate Homeopathic help is vital.

Perhaps a spider bite. The symptoms can be self limiting and may
diasppear as quick as they appeared.I see things like this often, and
the usuals apply, arsenicum, rhus, etc with acute intake.

It *seems* now like it's been some sort of virus???? Or exposure, or ???
It's finally (and slowly!) passing away -- what a weird episode...
(But mm, Bell's Palsy sounds dramatic to me!)
