Fosamax and Spinal Stenosis

This is not a homeopathic question, but it is something that some
practitioners may have encountered. Fosamax is a medication used to retard
or reverse osteoporosis, primarily in the elderly. It has some fairly
well-publicized side effects, such as stomach wall and esophageal erosion if
not taken properly. But I recently saw a case of lumbar stenosis in an
elderly woman who'd been taking Fosamax for a few years. No history of back
trauma; she exercised regularly and not strenously. I've started doing
Medline searches and have encountered at least one other case so far.

Has anyone else seen the development of spinal stenosis or bone spurs in
patients taking Fosamax? If there is a link, the implications are huge,
because tons of women will be switching to this med if HRT is no longer an
option.
