POSOLOGY

Post by H. Balasubramanian »

Dear Frinds,
In Homoeopathy Potency and Repetition (Posology) is
unsolved question from Hahnemann till day. Based on
their individual experience many authors have
published materials on this subject. Most of the
articles are available in my software.

I have made a compilation. It may clear most of your
doubts. I don’t claim any credit, as it is only
compilation. Used only size 10 font to reduce the
size. Even then it exceeds the permitted limit of
email. Therefore, it is zipped. After downloading you
may unzip and increase the size of the font.
This can’t be sent as attachment to minuts group.
Those who are interested may send their request to my

Minutus, which I may not comply with.

My (H.B.) point of view is:
We have to understand the philosophy. In homoeopathy:
1. If natural disease is of strength one.
2. We give a remedy, which is capable of producing
symptoms similar to natural disease in healthy
persons, who volunteered for proving and strength must
be more than one. (Assume 1+). It is called
artificial disease.
3. Then vital force responds to this artificial
disease and increases its strength more than the
artificial disease, in this case 1+. (assume 1++)
4. When the vital force with strength 1++ acts on the
artificial disease and removes it.
5. Automatically the lower strength natural disease
also goes.

The conclusion from the above is: Remedy potency must
be slightly higher than the potency of the natural
disease. Only the unprejudiced accurate observing
physician can judge the correct strength of the
natural disease and select the correct potency of the
remedy to produce the artificial disease.

When the remedy’s action is exhausted and completed
and disease not yet cured, the repetition is to be
made assessing the present requirement of the potency.

Ultimately the individual physician is better judge of
the correct potency and repetition for the particular
patient. Here the susceptibility of the patient to
the homoeopathic potency is very important. The
physician must be able to assess the susceptibility of
the patient for selection the potency.
=====
BE HAPPY AND MAKE OTHERS HAPPY.

With best wishes,
H.B.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking up such an important subject. Might I ask what
software you are speaking of?
You are quite right that remedy must be slightly stronger than the
natural disease to remove it. This is because the *stronger similar removes
the weaker similar*. For a homoeopathic remedy to cure the primary action
caused by the remedy should be a little more powerful than the natural
disease. This stimulates a long enduring secondary curative action of the
vital force. If the primary action is to strong the remedy will aggravated
the patient and suppress the secondary action for period. If the primary
action is excessive it will use up the vitality that is normally used in
the secondary curative action weakening the response of the VF. A short
aggravation is usually followed by a powerful long enduring secondary
curative action but a strong long aggravation may have little or no
curative secondary energy. For such reason it is very important to
understand the adjustments of posology.

What factors affect the remedial power of the remedy? This includes the
size of the dose (the number of pills, teaspoons, drops, etc); the delivery
system (dry, liquid, olfaction, dermal); potency system (X, C or LM); level
of potency (low to higher) and repetition (single dose, split-dose). All of
these factors have an effect on the power of the remedy. All of these
factors can be adjusted in Hahnemann's advanced methods.

In the Organon Hahnemann speaks of individuals individuals that are 1000
times more sensitive than another. This implies that one can study
individuals on a sensitivity scale of 1 to 1000. This means that a potency,
dose and repetition that would not affect a number 1 hypo-sensitive will
cause a terrible aggravation in the 1000 hyper- sensitivity. Therefore one
must also take into account the sensitivity of the patient. This may be the
most important individual factor in posology.

The nature of the disease state is also quite important. There are a few
important types of disease states like the acute and chronic and functional
and pathological. Function diseases tolerate higher potencies better than
pathological states. Acute diseases are quick in its onset, forceful and
violent and sometimes need higher potencies and quicker repetitions.
Chronic diseases are slow and insidious and are often aggravated easily
calling for lower potencies, smaller doses, and less repetitions. There can
also be pathological crisis in chronic diseases which takes on acute-like
symptoms. This is not the same condition as a acute crisis because there is
old pathological tissue changes present. In such a situation one has to
very careful with the size of the dose and potency although more repetition
may be need than the normal chronic state.

The nature of the remedy also has some effect on posology. For example,
non toxic plant remedies like Puls are less prone to aggravation than
virulent animal poisons like Lach. The nutritional elements don't usually
causes as deep of aggravation as the toxic heavy metals, etc Knowledge of
remedies comes from the study of the material medica.

The above are only a few ideas but I hope is offers some seeds for
future investigation. From this we can see there are four important areas.

1. How the remedy is prepared and used (size of the dose, delivery system,
potency, repetition, etc)
2. The level of the sensitivity of the individual patient (1 to 1000+)
3. The nature of the disease state (traumatic, acute, chronic, pathological
crisis, functional, pathological, etc).
4. The nature of the remedy (mineral, plant, animal, toxic, heroic,
tolerant of repetition, intolerant of repetition, etc).
This somewhat depends on whether one is using the 4th Organon dry dose
and the wait and watch method or the 5th and 6th Organon method which
includes the single dose in those cases with a striking reaction and
repeating the split-dose at suitable intervals in those cases that are only
slowly improving on a single dose. There is also some difference between
the C and LM potency even in medicinal solution.
Yes, the individualization of posology is supreme. It is the
homoeopathician that must decide what is most appropriate though
experience. Again thank you for raising this subject.

Sincerely, David Little
