Abstract of study

title:Assessment the effect of homeopathy on length of postoperative ileus in st ZAHRA and KASHANI hospital in Isfahan.

background:

Ileus is distinguished with the diminition of normal bowels activity and prolongation of this time has a lot of postoperative complication(inflammation ,infection,mechanical obstruction,retarding food absorbtion,...)and also takes a lot of expenditure.there is not any new treatment found from the beginning of past century to decrease this duration.although efficacy of homeopathy in treatment of many diseases is proved in different studies,but unfortunately is still unknown for many Iranian scientific assemblies.this study investigated the efficacy of homeopathy as a complementary medicine to reduce the duration of postoperative ileus.

Methods:

In this study of double blind randomized clinical trial ,we compared the first flatus and feces between two groups of patient who had laparotomy operation.

1.Intervention group(40 cases),who were administered 5 cc solution of one pellet opium 12c immediately after operation.

2.Control group(40 cases)who wee administered only 5 cc pure water just after operation in st ZAHRA and KASHANI in 1379 MEHR and ABAN.

The remedy was repeated every six hours till first flatus was registered.

Results:

In control group the mean time of first flatus and feces were respectively 42.3(+_13.4)(hr)and146.9(+_40,5)(hr).these finding for intervention group were 34.9(8,1)(hr) and 107.1(33.3)(hr).the weighted mean difference between homeopathy and placebo was-7.6 hours in favor of homeopathy(ci=%95,p value<0.05,+0.5hr to -14.8hr).

Conclusion:

opium 12c remedy reduces significantly the length of ileus in postoperative patients.
