Hello Peter,
Is that a fact? Why did Hanhnemann put in APH 5 after his 12 years of miasm research?
He already knew about symptoms, but he failed to cure!
Sometimes only the cause will lead to the Simillimum, sometimes there is a lack of symptoms.
No good prescription can be made wihout also covering the underlying cause, thats what Hahnemann discovered.
Saying symptoms will only lead to recognition of the picture of disease, is just like saying 'roads lead to the destination'. Which roads? Just roads? All roads?

In Aph 7:Now, as in a disease, from which no manifest exciting or maintaining cause (causa occasionalis) has to be removed1, we can perceive nothing but the morbid symptoms, it must (regard being had to the possibility of a miasm, and attention paid to the accessory circumstances, ¤ 5) be the symptoms alone by which the disease demands and points to the remedy suited to relieve it - and, moreover, the totality of these its symptoms, of this outwardly reflected picture of the internal essence of the disease,
It is not just symptoms, etiological factors, miasm, constitution and the totality of symptoms lead to the recognition of disease.
You see 'constitutional type' as something fixed, only the inhereted constitution, but it is dynamic, there is also an aquired part.
When you treat on the constitutional level, (and not all prescription are, there is also miasmatic, acute etc) you can say someone has this or that constitution, healthy positive aspects also, but here disease and health are two sides of the same coin.
And what is a symptom and what is health, tell me, an aspect that for someone is healthy, can be pathological for another person. But you can define 'I prescibed his or her constitutional remedy' And you can use the positive aspect, characteristics as confirmation of your remedy, because they have a connection to the disease.
Same goes for miasm, acute cause etc.
