Homeopathic formulary in allopathic institutions

Post by Arlene Kellman, DO »

Isali,

Thanks for relating your experiences with the complementary medicine
unit in a hospital. Where I work, we have patient care conferences once
a week in which staff members from varied disciplines discuss each
patient's care plan at length. If homeopathic treatments are helpful,
you can be sure this will get some attention.

While writing this, I just recalled that about 1-1/2 years ago I
referred a patient at the same institution out for treatment by a local
naturopath who prescribed a homeopathic remedy. Due to the perception
that seeing the naturopath would interfere with the patient's therapy,
the treatment team refused to allow him to continue seeing the
practitioner. Months later, the patient's therapist approached me to
"make amends," confessing that she had initiated misinformed, negative
comments about homeopathic treatment that led to it being vetoed.
There's a lot of prejudice and fear out there!

Regards,
Arlene

Hi Arlene,

Aside from fear of lost revenues due to people actually being cured which is probably more of an institutional disease than a conscious
part of most practitioner's mindset..

What do you see as the panorama of prejudice & fear amongst medical
professionals?
And perhaps elaborate on case-in-point in the instance mentioned?
