OFF TOPIC: Correlation of Homeopathy and TCM

Post by isali »

I repost an offering of information regarding Homeopathy and I place in brackets its TCM counterpart. My intention is to suggest that we share healthcare principles; employ different methodologies for interpreting information; and speak a different language.

The language becomes a barrier, and the diagnostic methods only fit the paradigm of its birth. However, fundamentally, there is a convergence of perception of the individual organism. This convergence is one of principle.

Information regarding the organism is obtained by ascertaining its interrelation with the external environment which in TCM we refer to as the Heavens and the Earth. And assert that as you affect either so do you affect the organism.

Information is gathered as well regarding the internal environment of the organism, which conceptually is driven by an interrelationship between the mind, the vital force, and the body. They become inseparable aspects of the whole.

I assert that such assessments are shared by homeopathy and TCM for the same reasons based on principle. We differ in language and methodology, and that becomes a barrier to the sharing of information and perhaps a finding that medicines may very well be employed in a safe and complementary manner with improved benefit to those whom we serve, the patient.

Though this is classified as off topic, it is imperative as a topic of healthcare concerns, particularly for physicians. We remove fears by reducing barriers, we find strength as a result of nurturing interrelations, and we are no better than the weakest amongst us. We all have failings as physicians that others might realise success. As a physician, I want to learn more about my failings and how another protocol brought about benefit. That requires dialogue, challenging your own thoughts and that of others, steppint out of the box.

I place in brackets my comments

Soroush states:
Many years ago I drew up this little chart for myself and I share it with you :

Principles of Classical Homoeopathy.

The modern Classical Homoeopath understands and applies the following concepts:
1. The role of Vital Force (In TCM we refer to this as the function of the ZHENG CHI)
2. Susceptibility (ditto as deficiencies of the Zheng, Wei and Nutritive chi)
3. Miasms (diito as aspects of deficiency of the Yuan chi(source chi))

( The Zheng Chi in TCM is comparable to the Immune System or the Vital Force. It functionally interrelates with all the organ systems. The Wei Chi is the defensive energetic that reflects itself through all tissues outside of the blood system. The Nutritive Chi is that energetic which reflects itself within the blood system. The Wei Chi and the Nutritive Chi are in a yang/yin relationship. Yuan Chi eminates from the Kidney system and has aspects which are pre and post birth. )

[The above three define the individual] ( Absolute Concurrence)
4. Symptom similarity ( items 4,5,6 TCM might lump together and reflect in our materica medica under TCM diagnostic method headings. Item 5 & 6 counterpart could be specific formula construction and their results.)
5. Dilution & Potentisation
6. Proving
7. Prescription of a SINGLE remedy and waiting for reaction.
8. Herring's Laws of cure ( TCM affirms exactly and precisely the same. I would add the Arndt-Shulz Rule and the Principles of Similia, Contraria, and Equalia)

That is to say, during cure the symptoms will move in the following manner:
· From more vital organs to lesser organs
· Generally from inside out, taking the least harmful and shortest route
· Generally from head towards the toes

In applying the above, the modern Classical Homoeopath:
v Studies and re-studies the Organon, Chronic Diseases and books by Kent, Boger, Farrington, Herring and others in depth and keeps homoeopathic principles in the foreground of mind.
v Maintains / improves the standards of Homoeopathy, always questioning what is read or heard and asks without hesitation.
v Does not engage or enter into futile transcendental speculations.
v Whilst trying to recognise his or her prejudices, strives to be an unprejudiced observer, concerning both the patient and the remedy (and colleagues??).
v Understands miasms and their effects.
v Is humbled by working with the enormous power of the Vital Force and potentised remedies.
v In acute and chronic cases, takes the whole case and while prioritising on the important symptoms, prescribes on the totality of presenting symptoms covering mental, emotional, general, concomitants and rare & peculiar symptoms that often lead to the Similimum.
v REPERTORISES every time, even when a known remedy case appears to be presenting.
v In selecting a remedy, uses every tool available including the advice of colleagues.
v If in doubt does not prescribe but rechecks notes or retakes the case on another day.
v Uses only one remedy at a time, never repeating until the results and the reaction of the Vital Force have been observed. Of course in acute cases one may have to prescribe every few minutes
v Does not use unproven remedies.
v Selects the potency of the remedy with great care.
v Follows Hahnemann's instructions faithfully, resorting to a different technique only as a last resort.
I should be grateful for any comments on improving the above.
Good healing and may the force of enlightenment with us.
Soroush
(Who could find disagreement? TCM does the same with references to its sources)
