help with addiction? case

Last week I wrote about a woman who had been in a serious accident.
She was put on morphine and codeine drugs for about 2-3 weeks until
she developed symptoms from the drugs and took herself off them.

This woman developed several severe reactions. On one level she was
seeing the accident, blaming herself, replaying it over and over. She
wanted to die. On another level, she began to develop physical sx that
included shaking and a creepy crawly feeling up her back into her neck.
Once in her neck, it was burning and would radiate down her arms which
would begin to shaky and jerk around. Her legs would also shake and jerk
around. She described the feeling as if something were under her skin.
It would move up her spine and settle in the neck and she felt as if
something were sitting on her neck. It was very frightening to her.

During the day, she could use deep breathing to control these episodes
At night when she fell asleep, she would awake about 3 a.m. with this
quivering and shaking. Very frightening to her and this would keep her
awake till about 5 -6 a.m. when she could finally fall back asleep a bit.

She received Arnica 200c initially for shock and then aconite 30c repeated
hourly for a day. The arnica set off a shaking episode which is why i
used the aconite 30c. she is very sensitive to meds. The aconite also
set off an episode, but then there was great amelioration for the day. Her
voice developed some strength; she began to do things; and she kept
saying how releived she was. This held till 3 a.m. when she awoke with
an episode and crashed and has been in a crashed state since (2.5 days now)

She is receiving acupuncture for the pain from the broken pelvis and femur & ribs.
A naturopath gave her magnesium. Both these modalities help for short
periods of time.

Other sx include desire for motion; desire for company; she hums for amel and
likes human voice; sucks on ice altho prefers warmth. the broken bones felt
better in a hot bath. and she likes to be rubbed. Cries easily (was sobbing
on the phone when i told her she needs someone in her city (i am 3000 miles
away). She is frightened and despairing of recovery.

I am wondering now if this is really the results of the drugs or whether there
was some neurological injury which might be causing some epileptic type of
episode. She is no longer seeing scenes of the accident repetitively which makes me
feel the aconite did its job. The pain from the broken pelvis is being amel by the
acupunture so this is not the issue. Tonight she said she almost felt like walking
on her legs. the shaking episodes are not ameliorating at all which i would think
would happen as time passes if this were simply an addiction response. In the meantime
she will try ars 200c tonite.
Really need some feedback on this case.

Also, need some names and numbers of classical homeopaths in Seattle.

Dear Tanya, although it seems unlikely that you will be able to properly
help this person because she is so far away from you I thought it might be
interesting to draw a somewhat wiggly line around a possible comparative
group of remedies that might help this case.

AGARICUS - CIMICIFUGA (actaea racemosa) - STRAMONIUM

profound effects of fright, injury and shock (but are actually fearless)
feelings of despair - need company in case they injure themselves
broken body, especially spine and pelvis
delusion that arms and legs do not belong to her

STRAMONIUM (theme of clinging)

profound effects of fright, shock and terror
cannot be left alone
inconsolable disposition
great deal of suppression has usually taken place (opiates?)
suppression can cause loss of memory (amongst other thing)
fixed notions of guilt (blames herself but is unable to remember the sin
committed)
extreme muscular mobility - often graceful (which can be seen in
Parkinson's)
rapidly recurring twitching and trembling of arms and lower limbs
(the above makes you think of Kali brom)
this motion generally > company
always >> warmth
sensation as if electricity passing though the body
sensation as if bones were sawed through
sensation as if boiling water in throat (desires ice?)
great dryness of mouth and burning thirst (desires ice?)
but there is usually a dread of liquids
sensitive spine - as if fractured

but for all this there are notions of PAINLESSNESS (like opium!)
Possibly an underlying Phos. influence

after reading up on these suggestions, agaricus seems the closest and it is probably
the next on my list of remedies to try. what is interesting, is her responses so far.
it seemed that the ars 1M was not going to help much, but lo and behold, a call
late this afternoon revealed the following: she left the house with my daughter and
went to help her pack her things. she was in an irritable and frustrated state. smashed

also, she could lie down now and feel good. the icy heat in her neck had lessened
and now there is only a warm feeling. the shaking is less and she hasnt had an
episode for over 4 hours. lying down still agg sx and she is experiencing a sensation
as if she were coming off and lsd trip. she feels very trippy.

all this seems to be an improvement. again doing things amel; lying down agg
but definitely less pain and discomfort; less fear and anxiety, but still jittery if
sitting still.

it is amazing to me that this case is moving forward with such a distance between us.
we will see how she gets through the night. i directed her to stop fighting the sx and
to breathe into them. she still needs constant confirmation that she will get better and
in fact is better. her friends are noting how much stronger and more present she is.
such feedback is very confirming.
