With the stricter airport security procedures going on these days,
has
anyone had any problems preventing their remedies from being X-rayed?
I have in the past merely insisted on my FAA right to have them
hand-inspected (also all my film canisters, exposed or not.) I have
not travelled either domestically or internationally since 9/11, and
wonder how difficult it is going to be to keep my remedies from being
(possibly)fried in the scanner? (Since even American citizens in the
US are not protected by the Bill of Rights anymore, I have my doubts
about being able to insist on FAA rights to protect my little
pillules, but there's nothing like Ars.alb for a bad stomach in Asia,
and you'd hate to find out it had been antidoted just when you need
it
to be fully potentized!)
So, has anyone travelled internationally with their remedies lately,
and what was your experience with airport security?

Re: Airport security & Homeopathic remedies
I believe I have written about this one before.
I have travelled many times since 9/11 and the situation is getting
stickier all the time. Early on, I could ask the security guards to
hand-inspect my remedies. But now one cannot, UNLESS your kit is 100%
Labeled by the manufacturer (ie., Dolisos, Boiron, etc.) and no vials
have been opened. Even this is not always helpful, as they want to know
what's INSIDE and once they see the small pills, they either want YOU to
taste each vial to make sure you are not carrying poisons or explosives
(oh YEH!) or they demand that you check the kit with your main luggage
into the airplane, where SUPPOSEDLY your luggage will be inspected
against explosives...
Here is what I have done of late:
I carry with me in my purse only emergency remedies, such as Arnica,
Hypericum and Belladonna, in 87% alcohol in liquid form. My thinking
(maybe I am wrong...) is that if it goes through the security Xray, I
can re-succuss the bottles afterwards and still get a good remedy.
During my last trip I had to use the two first ones as three people were
swinging in a hammock which tore and all three fell to the ground and
hit various parts of their backs. All remedies (Arn. and Hyp in this
case) seemed to work just fine.
If I need more remedies, I send them to myself via UPS or FedEx. These
outfits don't scan packages with Xrays.
You are pretty safe sending via the postal service almost anywhere in
the USA except the East Coast areas near Washington DC, where all mail
is heavily irradiated (not Xrays, worse...).
Good luck

Re: Airport security & Homeopathic remedies
Another suggestion:
I too only take the emergency remedies with me through the carry on
screening (I do have a whole kit in my checked bags, although gradually that
will become more problematic). I put the little pouch containing the
tiniest vials of the true emergency remedies into my pocket. Then I go
through the metal detector, which doesn't expose the remedies (or me) to
xrays. Since there's nothing metallic in the vials, they don't set off the
alarm.

Re: Airport security & Homeopathic remedies
I have done the same when I went to Grand Cayman (international flight) earlier this summer with no problems... however the kit that I did place into my suitcase I placed in an X-ray bag manufactured for protecting camera film from X-ray exposure while traveling and are available at all camera supply stores...

Re: Airport security & Homeopathic remedies
The only trouble I have had recently was in Frankfurt going to Israel. The
******* of a man tried to insist that I put them through the x ray which I
won't do. He then tipped out all my 100+ plastic suregrip bags out of the
little box I carry them in into a big tray out of pure spite and left me to
pick them up and put them back into alphabetical order. In the little box I
have my professional card to show I am a homeopath. I had no trouble going
the other way back to England. Anyhow I insisted on taking his name and
number which he was trying to hide from me and although I had no intention
of doing anything about it , it gave me pleasure that he looked very
worried!!!
In England they have a civilised way of dealing with it. They wave this
piece of cloth over the remedies and put the cloth into a machine that tells
them that my white pillules are not explosives or drugs. Lets face it if we
are daft enough to show them for inspection they are hardly going to be
dangerous.
I am always told in UK that there is more radiation on the plane then in the
X ray machine they use but my argument is that I am taking the same box of
remedies through dozens of times a year not just the once!!

Rochelle

Re: Airport security & Homeopathic remedies
So far, when I've heard this question come up before, each of the (2 or 3?)
people who have let their remedies be scanned by the x-rays has not seen any
bad effect from it. One person (can't recall who) said that his travel kit
had been scanned many times, and still seemed to work just as well as ever.
I'm curious whether anyone's ever felt their remedies have been weakened by
being x-rayed, or whether it's only nervousness that this *might* happen?
Would be interesting for some frequent traveller to carry a vial of, say,
Arnica on a dozen or so trips thru airport security x-ray machine, and see
whether it seems to have been compromised or not -- any volunteers?

I can almost feel the results of putting my opinion on this board concerning
the remedies and Xray.
I use only hand succussed remedies. I use a film mailer and put the remedy
kits inside the suitcase, or I carry them up and hand them around the
machines and say they are Homeopathic. Don't X ray. I have never had
problems. It could be because I am a blue eyed, blond and not an Iranian dark
haired person, perhaps it is because I have a "Don't screw with my remedies"
look on my face.
I fly somewhere every 4-8 weeks.

Your experiment is a great idea! Hope we find someone(s) to do it.
