Miasm progression

In the Hahnemannian teachings there is no fixed universal progression
of the miasms. The order of the miasms in each patient is individualized by
the nature of the case history and the developmental timeline of their
personal disease state. If the patient has inherited sycosis because their
father had suppressed VD and then acquired a soft tissue infection which is
suppressed the order of their personal miasmatic progress is from inherited
sycosis to acquired psora. According to Hahnemann's direction of cure
taught in the chronic diseases the reversal of symptoms would be from
acquired psora to inherited sycosis. In this way, each case is personalized
by the timeline by which the individual disease state evolved. This has
proved accurate in a great number of cases where the symptoms reverses to
an old skin eruption or gonorrhea discharge, etc.. That is how Hahnemann
discovered the system in the first place, i.e. the reversal of symptoms.

The ideas of disease progression fits into the Greek concept of the
four homoeomeries (earth, water, fire air), the four similars that set the
pattern for all phenomena. For example, pathological states pass from
(earth) inflammation to (water) infiltration to f(fire) suppuration to
(air)ulceration. This is all part of what is called the Mappa Mundi. This
is a natural progression from one state to another in which is more
serious. The miasms do have a relationship to these four pathological
states, i.e. psora-inflammation/irritation; sycosis -
infiltration/induration; TB pseudopsora -suppuration/extravations and
syphilis-ulceration'/necrosis. Diseases that are highlighted by any one or
more of these four conditions may be related to that miasm or miasms.

Let use take a skin disorder. That is normally consider an area ruled
by psora but the other chronic miasms also produces a great number of skin
symptoms. The difference is that psora is red, itches and spreads and is
more painful than it looks. A sycotic skin eruption is more like an
excrescence or induration that smells fishy or briny. TB skin lesions pour
put pus and blood and syphilis produces ulcerations and erosions that look
terrible but hurt less than they look. This is part of differential diagnosis.

In this way, one may gain benefit from both concept of disease
progression and miasmatic characteristics but one it comes to clinical case
histories the timeline by which the a specific complex disease state has
developed is directly linked to the reversal of symptoms. Every case is
different and each patient must be approached as an individual. Although
there are universal patterns of disease progression there are also personal
individual disease expressions. Using both concepts it is a question of
balance. There is no one miasmatic pattern that is found in all individuals
but there are universal archetypes that apply to phenomena in general.
