Hi
Iam just starting my path to becoming a practicing Homeopath and
during the course of school have been treating 'simple' problems. My
question may seem a bit odd but I felt I needed to ask a group of people
who have been at this art and science a while now. I have had it
happen a number of times (too many to be merely coincidence) when doing
a consultation or after I seem to feel that persons pain literally. Iam
confused and a little worried about the implications of this. Does
anyone else ever 'feel' the suffering of their cleints? If so what do
you do so you can continue to practice without taking on others stuff.
I felt like I should ask and see what others experiences have been
like. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: feeling others pain
Dear Kim
i do not have your experience, but i do of individuals who do. the wife of a spiritual hands-on healer
i know does this. she does this intentionally when her husband wants to locate a pain or get a handle
on the quality of the pain. i have this quite fascinating.
this ability seems like it might be a gift. what i would suggest is that you try to use it in your case
taking. it will also be necessary to learn to separate yourself from this empathetic pathway in order
to preserve your own equilibrium. psychologists for example need to learn to keep their distance
from people so as not to wear themselves out while working.
i would see this as an intriguing path to explore, learn from, and learn how to use it to the betterment
of yourself and the people you will be working with.
regards

Re: feeling others pain
Dear Kim,
Hi! This is a great question for this forum.... I know of other people with this same kind of reaction. For example they can't watch surgery on T.V. without feeling pain, watch others go through some kind of endurance without have pains or visit with people and not experience their emotions... I have thought of it as being:
MIND - SYMPATHETIC
MIND - IMPRESSIONABLE
MIND - SENSITIVE - external impressions, to all
MIND - SENSITIVE - mental impressions; to
MIND - HORRIBLE things, sad stories affect her profoundly
Maybe? I am curious what others have to say as well.
Sincerely,
Natasha

Re: feeling others pain
Hi Kim,
I too have experienced this. The first patient I ever saw came to me
because of migraines, after an hour of interacting with her I developed
a terrible headache which lasted for quite some time (and I am not prone
to headaches).
This happened for quite sometime until I realised that I was adopting
each patients symptoms, and taking on their energy, whilst giving them
all of mine. Needless to say I was quite exhausted at the end of each
consultation. I have had to create a protective field around myself so
that I don't absorb their ailments, and drain myself at the same time.
Possibly something like this maybe of help to you.
Best
Vanessa

Hi Kim,
I'm sure many others do, to greater or lesser extent.
It is good on the one hand to be able to access this empathic sensitivity,
but on the other hand- it seems that you are reasonably concerned with it
becoming "out of control..."
-so, the best course is to learn to control it to some extent.
I would suggest that you find a teacher of Taoist "microcosmic orbit" and
learn to move energy consciously, and to be able to open and close your self
to the suffering you sense.
By one of those incredible synchronicities of life, by which we sometimes
see the hand of fate unveiled.. I began studying this before homeopathy,
and found that this discipline was very useful both in homeopathy and in
craniosacral energy work.

Re: feeling others pain
hi dear kim and others, this happens to me in other parts of my life also,
not only taking a homeopathy case. recently, with two cases, no matter what
i did, i could not protect myself. i wrapped myself in the light, said
affirmations, told them (silently, of course) to get out of my aura. it was
so extreme it was pretty unbearable.the minute they left, i was fine. as i
get more sensitive, i am more sensitive to the vibrations of others. but
why some more than others, i do not know. thanks for bringing this up, kim.

Re: feeling others pain
Hi Shannon,
I imagine that there is an invisible wall that stands between me and my
client, that way I can still see them clearly, hear and empathise with
them but am protected by anything that they might be trying to shed.
I also have tried curling my tongue back slightly so the tip sits
against the roof, as someone once told me that it allows other peoples
energy to roll straight over you. I find this less effective in clinic
though.
Best,
Vanessa
