Opening up an urban homeopathic practice
Hi,
I am returning from living in Tokyo for the last 12 years. The move will take place early next year. I'm leaving Japan because doing Homeopathy here is so difficult here. There are so many political and cultural reasons for this. I know that California law protects homeopaths.
If anybody would be willing to discuss their experience in either of those cities, or even talk about moving a homeopathic practice into a different urban environment, I would be interested. Private email would be great too.
Best,
Ellen Madono

Hi Ellen,
You might have a look at the new issue of The California Homeopath: http://californiahomeopath.com/
There's also an organization in the SF Bay Area, BAHA, which you will find linked in the ad section of the magazine.
Wishing you well,
marci

Thank-you Marcy. I subscribed. The journal was immediately helpful. I can see I am in for cultural shock.
Kathleen Scheible, CCH mentions the importance of Local homeopaths forming some kind of alliance to support one another. Schools are an obvious association. Organization of conferences is another venue. I am communicating with a group of homeopaths in the Northeast who are organizing a local homeopathy week. I've also thought about affordable walk-in clinics for outreach. Clearly I am weak in the business end. California in the fast lane does not sound like me.
Avghi Constantinides writes:
third-year classes we talk a lot about how to start a professional practice, how to get a business license, how to create a business model that suits everyone’s ideas and needs, how to get insurance, and how to develop clients.
She started a homeopathic school in LA with Lou Klein. She said, many have folded because of poor business practices.
Another homeopath said that MM study was the basis of her early failures. I (Ellen) continue with this never ending journey. At this point, a teacher is not the problem. Internalization of information is more to the point. It's not information, it is like knowing another person or a category of persons. Then accessing and returning to that category.
Best,
Ellen

Re: Opening up an urban homeopathic practice
I would love to hear what your experiences and difficulties were with practicing homeopathy in Japan.
Practicing legally in California is very simple due to the Calif. Health Freedom law that was passed.
Stay within that laws guidelines and you cannot be arrested for practicing medicine without a license.
It specifically protects NON-licensed practitioners i.e. NOT doctors, nurses, chiropracters, acupuncturists, etc. who are covered by their licensing.
As a NON-licensed practitioner
1) you cannot do anything invasive e.g. needles, prescription drugs, adjustments, x-rays, other (I forget).
2) You must have the client sign off on a full disclosure of what you will practice with them
3) You must have the client sign off on a statement of your training
Other than that, you can do anything that you and the client agree to.
It still doesnt protect you from mal-practice hazards. The client can sue you for negligence.
You can download all the information and examples of forms at:
