There was a 7.8 EQ centered in Christchurch, about 400 miles from New Plymouth. (Different island)

Still there guys, it will not be that easy to get me.....;-):-D....thanks for the concern!

The whole house shaked for almost a minute, but nothing fell from shelves and no damage, no electricity for a few hours but that was not a problem, it was the middle of the night, so we got back to bed.

Lots of damage in the South Island and Wellington. Two deaths...only...2 too many...but still that low toll is up to our buildings and level of preparation.

Some hilarity though: while the house was having a fit, the dog kept sleeping, only waking up at the end of the quake, and went "woof" in a tone meaning "hey guys, do you know it is shaking...is it time for my walkie?" then went back to sleep.

Makes you realise who is the real boss....

Glad you are OK.

I have a patient who moved to my town precisely because of her fear of this constant earthquakes. The fear is so great that when she returned to visit her family last year she refused to stay in Christchurch but made her family come and she her where she was staying!!

I wear a Q link too, yet within 4 hours BEFORE the earthquake I had weird pressure in my head followed by a terrible vertigo that lasted for almost an hour....I though I was having a stroke.

Was then better but then during and after the quake, every symptom disappeared...I interpret that as having regained some of my "animal powers", the ability to sense changes in the geomagnetic field, which might give advance warning of something about to happen and take evasive action.
I could be delusional, but just before each aftershock, "something weird" was happening in my head...maybe because I expected it to happen....I am quite certain I will have plenty of opportunities to test that more...
