A strange vertigo attack

I wonder if anyone has thoughts about what this could be?

A friend just described an episode he had an hour or so ago. He said
that he was driving, and suddenly felt as though the car had flipped
over (and kept as-if-flipping, I gather). "I was confused, couldn't
figure out what was happening." But he was able to pull off the road,
and five or ten minutes later, felt normal again.

He said maybe it was because the sun was coming through the trees, "like
a strobe" -- but I think it's only epileptics that would be affected
that way, isn't it? He's not epileptic.

Then he said maybe it was related to his very occasional migraines, but
why would it...

He said that the vertigo came on very abruptly, and also stopped
abruptly, and afterwards he felt basically normal, except a bit nervous
about what had happened, and whether it would happen again.

Anyone have thoughts?

If it was while driving one probable cause could be cervical spondylosis
If it is that it can happen again

Do you think of any tests I could suggest for him to do, to follow up and see if that (and future stroke) are likely issues? (If he's willing, which seems rather unlikely actually...)

Hm, that he probably does have.
So the only recommendation that brings to my mind is, See a chiropractor (and etc.).
Oh, and yoga, he's done it in the past, keeps saying he's determined to start again, and definitely needs to. I think I'll use this as a chance to re-emphasize that point!
This is someone I can occasionally give a remedy to, but have only limited and occasional pull with.
Does anything else come to mind as relevant or useful for me to suggest?

Also, why is driving particularly associated with this -- because of a more forward position of the head at that time, or something else?

No but constitutional remedy usually works
Local remedies such as calc phos bambusa cocculus conium (depending on symptoms) are some other options

Has he recently had a flu or cold – I have had a smattering of patients over the last 3 flu seasons with vertigo attacks post flu – most have responded to Conium or Cocculus – but also agree with Joe that other causes like TIA may be well in the picture if no flu

First auscultate his carotids, his aorta, his heart, Doppler of those vessels and heart, determine if it is at all a TIA or not, etc,....the whole shebang as usual...
