I’m a woman. As is half of the global population. This means I get periods - obviously.

And if you’re also a woman, you’ll know that being a teenage girl and getting your period is a weird, awkward, sometimes scary thing.

It’s something most of us don’t like to talk about very much - but it’s kind of important. Especially for the girls around the world who don’t have access to a proper bathroom or anyone to explain what’s going on. Girls like Trinitas, who grew up in Malawi and was forced to live with the stares and taunts of her classmates every month as her periods continued to stain her clothes .

1 in 10 girls in Africa miss school during their periods - because they don’t have sanitary pads, access to running water or adequate sanitation facilities.

Sign the petition calling on Sweden and the Netherlands to keep their promise and improve sanitation for millions - including girls.



Last year, Sweden pledged to provide 60 million people with improved sanitation. The Netherlands followed with a promise to provide 30 million people with clean toilets and 50 million people with clean water. Both countries promised to deliver these commitments by 2030, but neither country has shown much progress yet.

If acted on, these promises could mean significant change for girls without the sanitation they need to deal with their periods in a dignified manner.
