Picture of Niccolum sulphuricum
Essence: very restrained in love.
Very restrained in love
They like to stay in control and this hampers their love life. They find it difficult to admit to feelings of love and passion. They find all talk about love rather trivial. If they do allow themselves to fall in love it tends to be rather a technical and cool affair. They would rather push their feelings down and not fall in love. Perhaps they were teased in the past with expressions like: ‘You are really letting yourself go’ or ‘You have really lost your head now!’.
Suppressed in their love life
A variation on this theme could be a relationship where they feel suppressed. Their tendency to push their feelings down could lead to a situation where they put themselves aside for the sake of the other. They realise what they are doing and they know it isn’t right because what they need most is extra space and encouragement to express themselves.
They want to have found a solid base inside themselves before they want to enter into a relationship.
If their partner falls in love with someone else they get jealous, but even this jealousy is immediately suppressed.
Suppressed by their partner
Or they get a partner who suppresses them and doesn’t give them any space. The mere knowledge that someone has fallen in love with them can make them feel suppressed or persecuted: ‘adoration means persecution’. A typical situation that fits this theme is that of an arranged marriage.
A very restrained partner
Another variation is that they have chosen a very restrained partner who can’t handle emotions and who is afraid that his or her own emotions will be triggered. This type or partner might be so desperate to retain control that they appear very haughty.
Harmony and restraint
They are very restrained and hate strong emotions. They don’t see the point in getting angry or upset and they don’t like to be interrupted by these sort of violent outbursts from others. They like to live in harmony, which is reflected in their choice of clothes and jewellry. But even here the deliberations are more technical than emotional. They may choose some beautiful clothes which don’t suit them at all. Their emotional sense of harmony was never consulted.

I have a case of Niccolum Sulphuricum that is going quiet well.

I don't have the file with me but I'll see what I can recall off the top
of my head.
10 year old girl with chronic sinus and nasal complaints. Thick clingy
mucous. (there's more to it but I can't remember now).

Not much characteristic in the physical complaints unfortunately. (no
PQRS)
In her personality there was much drive, (for example she sometimes
pushed herself so hard in sports to the point that she could hardly
breath - just to see how hard she could push herself). But no
anxieties.

She had very deep strong relationships with friends that she valued
highly, and her mother recounted a time when a friendship has been
threatened and how much this had affected her.

She also needed complete silence to sleep.

There wasn't much to go on, really.

We tried Kali Bich at first based on the cheif complaint (the mucous
etc) with little effect.

I suspected she was a mineral remedy so I looked at Scholtens from the
series and stages point of view. Focus on school (work) lead me to the
Ferrum series, and her drive without anxiety suggested she might be a
healthy stage 10 - Niccolum for the cation.

For the Anion I looked at the deep relationships, so silica series, and
sulphur is known for deep relationships (unfortunately when reading
Scholten he talks about all sulphur salts as if they're married people
and talks about their romantic relationships - so very hard to fit with
a 10 year old girl!).

There were a couple of confirmatories in the generals, such as dislike
of boiled vegetables. And I did find nasal and sinus complaints with
lots of mucous in both Niccolum and Sulphur.

So I tried Niccolum Sulph (30CH I think) and it had a pretty dramatic
effect of the sinuses, and her energy levels were up to, and her sleep
was easier - not as picky about needing complete silence. We repeated
the dose and that worked well, but the effect didn't last as long with
the second dose.

So we increased the potency to 1M and I'll see her soon to assess how
she's doing.

Also, between the second and third doses we did an elimination diet to
determine if dairy was affecting the sinus complaints. It was. So
we've also advised to cut out the dairy.

I've used the method from Scholten of determining the Cation and Anion
seperately and combining to make a salt in several cases with good
success (obviously only works in mineral cases). One of my teachers has
been using the method with good success four the past four years. Often
if you take the two halves of the salt seperately it looks like a good
match - but the MM info on the actual salt is lacking or doesn't really
match what you've come up with. But it still works and works well.
