Ebola Update: OT

Post by Roger B »

Dear Y'all,

For all of you Ebola worry-warts, like me:

From http://www.medpagetoday.com/InfectiousD ... bola/48265

"Despite widespread concern, the country has had only nine confirmed cases of the disease. Of those, just one has died. Seven have been cured and the ninth remains in treatment."

So, this is a 12.5% fatality rate, with one patient still in question. This is still in the scary realm, but much better than a 50% to 97% fatality rate. And presumably, the doctors will get better at what they are doing. And this does not count the greatly reduced transmission rate.

These kinds of numbers cause me to re-assess my freaking-out from my previous email about Ebola. The end of civilization has been cancelled. But things could still get very bumpy with regard to Ebola, particularly in undeveloped areas of the world.

Notice also that there is still no vaccine yet; public health measures have been sufficient to bring the dreadful-numbers down so significantly. This should be a lesson for everyone with regard to how the medical profession likes to brag about how great vaccinations are.

Sincerely,
Roger Bird
