I get dibs on patenting homeopathic sulfur.

Post by Carol Orr »

If the FDA is involved in explaining homeopathy then it looks like we might be
a few steps away from pharmaceuticals patenting something like dilutions of
particular remedies....So they get a patent on each remedy or the process or
something...So we better start patenting remedies one by one ourselves.

That's a good idea, but how do you patent something that has been in existence for hundreds of years? How could the big companies get away with it?

They will have to manufacture a remedy chemically --not out of natural substance. Then they
will try create an argument about lack of safety or uniformity or the like in order to have the FDA
declare it fraudulent or dangerous or, as they do with nutritional or herbal products, unreliable.

Given the elevated moral status of the FDA, I don't see that this would be a problem for them.
